For those of you that work full time and do most of the barn chores and riding, and keep your horses stalled at least part of the time how many horses do you have and how many of those do you ride? What is your routine and how do you schedule your day? How long does it take you to do your chores and then how long to ride?

I have 4 right now, two are finished barrel horses and 2 I'm breaking out. I try and rotate them, I usually only have time to work 2-3 a day but I try to get them all worked at least 4x a week. Doesn't always happen, I have a LOT of meetings after work and other obligations. I ride after dark a lot as we have lights so that helps.

Try and multitask... I usually saddle up the horses I'm breaking out and make them stand tied so theyre ready to go then move to the next horse or I've tied their head around to work on flexing while I work another..

I feed my barrel horses grain so I usually feed them right at 6:00 then work the other two first so I can quick ride my barrel horses later and it doesn't mess with their feeding schedule....

It's tough... the older I get the harder time I have working it all in. Some weeks you just can't do it!

I have time to ride one that is just starting OR ride/pony the two that just need exercising but I don't have time to do both.  And I usually get to do this two times a week.  Then I ride at whatever races I go to on the weekends.  During the winter months it is too dark to do anything so just a little riding on the weekends.

We have 4 horses of our own right now and one outside horse I am riding for a guy.  If I can get everything cleaned up and saddled in a timely manner I should be able to ride up to 4 horses a day.

My routine is to catch everyone and clean them up.  Saddle as many as I can, 2 horses use one barrel saddle and the other 2 can use the other, I can also use my SO's rope saddles if I am in a big hurry.  After everyone is saddled I tie them up and jump from one to the other.  I usually start riding around 6:00-6:30 and  by the time I do chorse and take care of the dogs it is well after nine before I get in the house.

I work 2 jobs and go to school... I could technically own probably 2 horses and be fine, but I am focusing on one and selling the other.

When I ride the one I spend 1-2 hours with him.

When I ride 2 it is 1-2 hours per horse. But both will be saddled and stand while I ride the other. It builds character, that standing tied lol!

I will only be working 1 job come June and it is a swing shift I think? 5pm-1am Wed-Sunday so that leaves me all day to work ponies if I want.

But I limit myself to 2 since I don't have horse property and boarding gets expensive!

Right now I just have 2 in the pasture and the kids do a pretty good job keeping one legged up so that leaves me to one, which I try to ride 4x a week and that usually doesn't happen. But it's about an hour spent each night. The joys of being an independent grown up. Lol

Right now I've got 2 horses. One is being seasoned on the barrels. One has just 45 days under saddle. The younger one I don't ride as long, but the older one needs lots of miles because he is high energy (and an easy keeper). I at least board, so I don't have the responsibility of taking care of the place. Most days, I don't get done with work until around 6:00 PM. I can usually work with the both of them and be home at 9:00. It helps that the horses are on the way to and from work for me.

I strive to ride every single night. Of course, there's always things that are going on at times.

I consider these to be my "easy years" because
1) I board ....someday would like to have my own place
2) No kids .... yet

Then it will become MUCH busier!!!!
