My horses have been on city water the entire time I've owned them and they are going to be switched to well water. I'm hoping they won't be picky but I have a feeling they will. What should I do to keep them drinking once we move?

start adding some flavor to their water now, then keep them on it when you move.  you might then be able to wean them off.

I don't think they will be picky, however.... I have a mare that will NOT drink from the bucket in her stall. I have no idea why... only thing I can think of is that she doesn't like the "rubber" taste from the hose that I use to water. It's a new hose and I think she can smell it. Weirdo, haha!

I've had good luck trying this! I used some gatorade powder - a scoop/bucket and the horses did great!

Good luck and let us know what works for you please!

Start adding a flavor to it. Sometimes a few splashes of gatorade or apple cider vinegar will alter it just enough. Then add it to the new water as well to give it the familiar taste. Then add less and less until it's plain well water.

I agree. When they are thirsty they will drink. They will probably like we'll wager over city to.

I'd start with the plain water and see what happens... Molasses makes a good added flavor too.

I guess I should use this approach..that's what I do for everything else. Didn't eat all your hay? Sorry...no more until you clean up.

Mine go back and forth since I'm on well at either house. I tote water with me from home but I'll mix it at a show if I think I'm going to run out. They learn real fast to drink what they have. I wouldn't worry about it

Agreed. I use to freak out a lot more when my boy didn't want to drink on the road. He's gotten better about it, but mostly I've found he just probably wasn't thirsty before.

Everyone in my barn likes to think they are. And most times I'm ok with it...they work hard for me so I want to make them happy
