| When it comes to our relationship with God, what do we need the most? What is it that we need above everything else as we approach God? The answer is "MERCY."
God's grace and mercy are companions. You cannot experience the grace of God without mercy, and you cannot experience mercy of God without grace. Mercy is God giving to us what we do not deserve. We need mercy. It is at the heart of the Christian faith.
"MERCY" is a word Christians uses a lot. We use it in our prayers. We use it in the songs of worship that we sing. We've become so familiar with the word that I wonder if we totally understand it and if we have become desensitized the impact of God's mercy has on our lives.
Twenty-seven Psalms focus on mercy and our need for it. Mercy is something we need every time we sin v 5 and it is something we need every day of our lives. Thankfully, God's mercy has not limit.
When we sin, we cry out to God for mercy and forgiveness. Sin breaks our fellowship with the holy God, so we must confess our sin and receive Gods' mercy for forgiveness 1 John 1:9 Each time we do this, God extends His mercy to us. He washes us clean and completely removes any record of wrong.
God's mercy is guaranteed to those who call out to Him. The truth is, there is very little guaranteed in the world in which we live. How refreshing that David gave us a glimpse of the character of God when he said, I will call upon You, for You will answer me. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that God would extend help, strength, assurance, forgiveness, or whatever he needed. This should drive us to our knees in worship of our great God who does wondrous things.
Psalm 86:1;10 Bow down Your ear, O Lord, hear me;
for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; save Your servant who trust in You! be merciful to me, O Lord. for I cry to You all day long, Rejoice the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For You, Lord, are good and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer, and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me. Among the gods there is none like You, O lord; nor are there any works like Your works, All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O, Lord, and shall glorify Your name. For You are great, and do wondrous things. You alone are God.
