Location: Where I am happiest | Caldwell talks about kissing spine and saddle fit in one of their video's. Or better yet just call Caldwell saddlery and they will explain it all to you and answere all your questions. |

Location: Opelousas, LA | I have a mare with it and I think the best thing you can do is to find the very best saddle fit possible and then use a quality pad. I have not started riding my mare yet but I am considering a CSI or Corrector pad unless my new saddle really fits her perfect.
I am waiting on Meleta Browns saddle with the new tree, it seemed to fit her better than anything else I tried, keeping my fingers crossed that it will work. |

Location: Texas | My horse had surgery for KS in Sept. There really isn't a saddle that will help with KS other than making sure it fits your horse. I would just recommend you get a get pad and don't scrimp on that. What is your current plan with him for treatment? I am not going to say anything bad about the vet that diagnosed yours as he is also the vet that diagnosed mine but ESMS has limited experience with threating KS as opposed to Dr Honnas in Bryan. I am guessing he injected your horses back and I hope that is all you will have to do inorder to keep him happy and comfortable. Mine did not really respond to injections for longer than 2 weeks at a time. I tried the systemic Tildren and it did not work, personally I feel like I wasted 1600 on that. ultimately he had the surgery and is doing very well. At first he was very stiff and unsure of himself but with any rehab, given time he has done great. He has been clocking anywhere from 1D to 3D times depending on day with only maybe 25 runs back after surgery. if you have any questions feel free to ask... |

| May I ask how much the surgery was? My horse also has it and I'm injecting right now to see how long that lasts. |

How much was the diagnosis?
In reality diagnosis is the cheap part. A couple of back xrays is the easiest way to diagnose it. You can also do a bone scan which is 1600. And lastly you can do a back block and see if there is a noticeable difference. Unfortunately many vets dont think of doing back xrays and ruling out other things can get vERY pricey especially if your horse is sore elsewhere in addition to he back. |

my exam was 75 and the xrays were 150. i didnt think that was bad at all. not sure what our bone scan is gonna run, Im guessing around 1000. we are only doing bone scan to double check that the kissing spine is all we are dealing with. there is some things x rays cannot see and I didnt want to take any chances so i opted for bone scan to be sure. might be over kill but id rather be safe than sorry. |
