| LMF makes a couple good ones they have Gentle Balance which is grain free and Low NSC Stage 1 and complete which are excellent for sugar sensitive horses, the complete can be fed without any added hay if necessary |

Location: Kansas | I had my local co-op calculate a low starch ration and I'm sure they could do low fat as well. I completely pulled the corn from my mix and cut oats by 75% but only raised my cost $2-3 a bag. Pretty cool I thought. |

Location: Durango CO | Sorry, I do not have suggestions but just curious as to why you want a low fat feed? Renew Gold is NOT low fat though, because it has a 15% fat content. The ADM Equine products have a 6-8% fat depending on which feed you go with. |

Location: USA | Love the ADM feeds. I think all their feeds are low starch. There's a lot of articles on their website that show the research behind the feed. It's all good stuff =) |

Location: Peach State | Triple crown makes a low starch with 6% fat, we feed that and add a quarter scoop of their senior feed to our older guys |

| I just put my easy keeper on a ration balancer (triple crown 30) and I feed that with just hay and pasture. |

| I am currently feeding the ADM 12% to 2 horses, which are/were my competing barrel horses. Since I had to go to work they are not getting the exercise they need. LOL Or am I either. LOL My senior horse, he is 24 this year and looks amazing and he is on the ADM Patriot Senior. He looks the best and looks in shape even though he has not competed for a number of years. The other two are just plain hogs, especially the mare. I have cut them down on the grain as they are on pasture 24/7 even though the pasture is not the best and before it rained this last weekend grass was turning brown. So I do give them some hay. I have the big round bales but I hand feed it off. I have just been thinking of switching the two to Nutrena Special Care as I think it is lower in starch and fat. Why low starch, because starch converts into sugar was what I was always told anyway. Plus you have to keep in mind as to what is available in your area. |

I understand wanting the low starch. Some horses can't handle it. I don't mind fat in their diet though. |

Triple Crown 30% and Buckeye Gro n Win are ration balancers. They're very very low starch & low fat. They're designed for super easy keepers. I have a mare who stays fat on 2lbs a day with free choice hay.
Fat isn't bad for them unless they're obese. Starch in high amounts isn't good, especially for non-competing horses. I feed Triple Crown Complete. It has around 20% NSC content which is the highest I've fed. But I don't have any issues with ulcers or hyper activity in my herd, so I feed it. My horses have never looked or felt so good.
TC has a Senior which is very low starch at 12%. It has 10% fat.
Fat is great for a horse. The starch, not so much. But you do need a certain amount for those short bursts of energy during your runs. The fat is slow energy for working at home and just normal activities. |

| Thanks for all the replies. I cannot get the Triple Crown in my area. I have a Tractor Supply so I can get the Nutrena. I have an ADM dealer that I have been getting the Patriot from, not sure if he can order the Feed Easy in the Patriot. I might check out the Blue Bonnet line as we have that here. Not a fan of Purina. |

I'm not a Purina fan either. Their 'enrich 32' junk hyped a friends horse up really bad. Which defeats the purpose of a ration balancer. Blah.
The other 3 companies you mentioned are great options. If you're able to find something along the line of the 30%, that's what I would try. No use wasting feed. When you feed less than the minimum, you're just wasting money. So a ration balancer or something concentrated like it would probably work for what you want. :) |
