Location: Minnesota | The fencing I currently have is from when the old owners lived here and I'm not a fan to say the least. I replaced the poly tape in the smaller of the two pastures just so I could get my horses home but I have learned that I don't like poly tape as much as I thought I would. The larger pasture is a mixture of a couple different things and looks to be old, real old. Its tight and secure but its not ideal at all.
Im looking for fencing types that you prefer and companies you would recommend. Feel free to attach some pictures of your fencing if you'd like. |

| What is the damage to the horse if they get caught in it compared to post and rail? Just wondering if it would be like getting tangled in wire with the same major injuries? (I have a horse that puts his hooves through.. or head etc) |

Not at all! It is coated so it will not cut them. It is very flexible so if they run into it they will just bounce off and the fence sill not break either. It is a very very safe horse fence. I have had a horse get tanlged up and came out without a scratch and all I had to do was fix my spring at the end of the fence that pulled out. |

| I have the ploycoated high tensile fencing from kencove, I really like it. I used wood posts and did H posts on the corners. Labor and materials was around 6K for approximaely 10 acres. |

| I just finished putting up RAMM high tensile electric coated wire and I absolutely LOVE it! RAMM has wonderful customer service too; I had a few questions while putting it up and they answered my questions quickly and were super friendly. I used posts from www.plastic-innovation.com; they are made out of recycled PVC pipe and have holes pre-drilled, so no need to buy insulators, or worry about replacing them. Also comes with a 20 year warranty. |

| What about keeping a stud in? From what you are saying it can be electrified or electric can be added on? I have post and 4 rail right now, but it was super expensive. Some of my posts are needing to be redone so looking at more cost effective options that will last longer but still safe. |

I only have 4 lines of the polycoated wire. My semi-tame donkey spooked one day and ran right into it. She actually went right in between the top and second wires without a scratch. If I had 6 lines she wouldn't have gone through but would've bounced off of it. I just brought my new horse in a couple of months ago and what does he do the first day? He lays down and rolls right next to the fence. He is one that rolls all the way over back and forth, so he got his hind legs caught in the bottom line. He got himself out with only a tiny spot of hair rubbed off that was only as thick as the wire, so it was a spot smaller than the fingnail on my pinky finger. |

| I will also be doing the Poly coated wire this summer with wood posts. I have done regular high tensile in the past so my question is can I use all the same materials/fencing supplies I used with my high tensile wire now with the poly coated wire? Tensioners, springs....what do you use for splices? |

I beilieve so. My pasture was fenced with the high tinsel (non coated) wire before. My fence guy just pulled that wire out and used everything I already had and just restrung it with the polycoated wire. |
