I was looking at the tack ads and saw a Martin saddle listed with flared bars. Ad said it was a special request. Anyone heard of this? I might be interested in one.

Double J Lynn Mckenzie's have flared bars on them!  Sure you could request it I guess, don't know.

Yes you can order Martins with the flat quarter horse bars. It does provide additional room across the back if you have a horse that is exceptionally broad. You have to request them when you order. Not standard by any means and they won't be flat unless they were specifically asked for. Not all horses would need them, but some boodlines tend to have broader backs. I actually have 2 with the flat bars and love them.

Standard Martin bars are flatter than most. Special order flat bars I imagine you could use their back as a dinner table...

I would call Martin with the serial no and have them educate me about the saddle.

Too many people are not measuring gullets properly, and are adding terminology such as flared bars, etc to sell the saddle.
