Location: Four Corners Colorado | So How do the barrel horse sires of today stack up in terms of number of foals vs number of money earners? What stallions sire a higher percentage of money earners? |

| That is how they rank the top barrel sires and dams each year. I am sure Dash Ta Fame is still in top and will remain there for several more years. These are published by the way. Here is a link to one--don't know how accurate it is. This is of the decade, by the way. The more foals running from a stallion is definitely going to boost the earnings because I don't think you are going to have one or two horses run in all the futurities much less win all of them.

See Dash ta Fame has 440 money earning foals on equistat out of 2,671 registered foals So he sires 16% money earners.
On The Money Red has 328 money earners out of 859 foals meaning he sired 38% money earners.
That is what the sort of information I'm looking for. |

| DTF had 632 money earners as of a year ago. And that only includes the previous 5 year period. This kind of information would be helpfull, but is hard to get ahold of. It is easier to find this information on race sires because earnings are mostly reported in the same place. Barrel racing is harder, because you can only find what equistat records. With the combination of AQHA records to find the number of foals sired by a particular stallion and Equistat to determin the number of earners you could get pretty close though. The more foals on the ground the lower the earner percentage is going to be, because of injury and inability of owners to campaign a horse, not really representative of a horse that just couldnt win anything. Many 1st crop sires have 100% money earners. |

I think it would be good information to know to make informed breeding choices.

Looking for information as a percentage of barrel money winning foals is not a good measure of a stallions production .......... too many stallions are race horse sires and barrels is a new game for them to compete in.
Stallions siring barrel horses are usually 15 years old or older by the time the number of their get start showing up as barrel money earners .... or the stallion is dead ...
If you look at this chart which tells a truer story than percentage of foals ... you will see a lot of only barrel sires in the high dollar earning list ... pay attention to the avg earnings of each sire and you will have better data ...
As you look at these charts ... you will see that 14 of the top 20 earners are deceased ..
