Looking for opinions. I'm not sure what else to try. My gelding is 17. He gets hock injections, every 3 months.  Has for 7 years now.   I had him working awesome this spring, and something happened. No idea what.  He is fine at a walk, but at a trot, has a gimp, almost like his hip is caughting. Can't feel it at a lope.  End of May I had stifle injections.  Was told should cure.  Still not any better.  I turned him. He means more to me than just drugging him to run. He will take great care of my daughter someday. I'm just wondering what your opinions would be as to what else is wrong?  First vet thought maybe fractured coffin bone but didn't do x-rays as he found a bruise spot on his hoof.

I would try Silver Lining Herbs. Feet and Bone with the Kidney. Also try giving Poly Glycan with Pentosan . Oral joint supplements are only absorbed 20% by the horse. So injectable is the way to go. Have you lunged him in a circle? If it is a stifle the outside back leg will short stride. You might also check his SI and whirlbone. Whirlbone soreness can be confused for stifle issues.

Get xrays.  Ringbone, navicular, bone spurs could all be causing them.

I think you need to find a better vet. They should be blocking to find out where in the leg it is or isn't working from the bottom up. It could be anything from a fracture to a pulled tendon or....... You have to isulate where he is sore at before you can even begin to really figure it out.

This.  Also could be that his coffin joints are inflamed & need injecting...good luck!

Thank you all.. Its been with 2 different vets.  First said he was just a bruise on his foot. Was slowly getting better, but not sound. 2nd vet did chiro work, and injected stifles. He has hocks done May 17th, 2 weeks after he was checked by original vet.  He has earned his retirement so I'm don't really want to inject and inject to keep using him. I'm just trying to get other options to keep him happier so my 2 yr old daughter can use him.

He won't eat supplements in his feed. I've tried.
I have trotted him in a circle, and he short steps, but its as if his "hip or stifle is catching.

Patella...... read up on it. If it feels like stifle the patella (ligament) could be stretched and it's catching.

Anytime I have a problem I always go to my massage therapist first. They are really well trained in the equine body structure. She lets me know what places are tender, stiff, cold, hot etc. and I start from there.  Not even close to as expensive as the vet and can help fix the problem.
