Location: WI | Has anyone ordered one and how long did it take? They responded to a question I had right away after I ordered, but it has now been 6+ weeks with 2 requests for updates and I have had no response. |

Is that because you didn't like the hat or because it wouldn't have taken as long? Thanks for the reply, makes me feel a little better! |

Location: Piedmont, OK | I ordered one the beginning of January hoping to have it by my birthday in Mid March and it was Late April before I got it. They use cheap Atwoods hats and my hat looks great but the crown is shallow and does not stay on my head like I need it to, and it's a cheap quality hat that you pay a lot of money to have painted. I suggest sending your own hat in. There are several other people who do it that are more affordable that I am looking at having do another hat for me. |

Location: Louisiana | Just paint your own!! Much, much cheaper. I've done 4 so far, 2 for myself and 2 for 2 little girls that ride with us. You don't have to be able to draw. I freehanded a lot, but I also printed out stuff, cut it out, and traced it on the hat. Step 1. Buy a hat that fits good! Straws are waaayyyy easier and use less paint. 2. If your straw has a lot of laquer, use a fine sandpaper to give everything something to stick to. 3. Use something(I used a wad of aluminum foil) to block the inside of the hat and tape the edges. 4. Spray with Gesso primer. 5. Paint with acrylic paint. 6. Re-tape the inside areas. 7. Spray with gloss sealer. If you want rinestones, put those on with E-6000 glue before sealing. I'll try to attach some pics.

Would a brush-on gesso and sealer work ok? I already have those :) |

Muchas cool. I may try this. I'm fairly crafty. Doesn't sound hard and even if you're not super artistic, the tracing strategy would work great. |

In Over My Head is a facebook page for a business that paints hats. She did 2 of them for my daughter and they turned out fantastic!! Turn around time was quick and it was less expensive than the other makers. She painted a black felt hat and a straw hat that I sent to her since I wanted to make sure that they fit before paying to have them painted.
Good Luck! |

Location: Louisiana | So I completely forgot about this post LOL!
Thank you guys so much!! I've never used brush on gesso, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. The cheetah/feather hat is the only one that is completely freehand, along with the lettering on the pink hat. I also free handed the zebra, but that's pretty easy bc there's no right way to do zebra stripes! The aztec is pretty much all stencil. I first cut out a price of cardboard and traced the stripes evenly apart. Then I drew(with a ruler to get it square) the other designs and cut them out. That one was a LOT of measuring to get it straight. It took a lot of paint bc the felt just soaked it up, even with the primer.
Another tip: make sure your hat is shaped how you want it before you start. I wouldn't want to risk messing up the paint.
Also, it's much easier to start with a more free form design like the skull design bc although I tried to make sure it looked centered, there wasn't an exact pattern like the aztec. That thing took forever. And for some reason I paint on the floor (always have!) so my back is killing me by the time I'm done from hunching over lol.
Thank y'all so much for the kind words!! Just do what I did and test it out on a $15 kids hat. Happy painting!! |
