I'm looking at a horse in the Portland, ND area and am DEFINITELY getting a vet check if I like him. I'm over on the Bismarck side, so I am looking for vets near Portland that I could contact to do the vet check. My usual vet is a good 2 hours away from there so just for convenience sake I was wondering if yall knew of anyone closer. Thanks!

Dr. Russell Voigt at Missouri Valley Vet in Bismarck.  Luckily I've never needed him for surgery or anything, but for lameness or pre purchase exam, he should be good.

This would probably be your closest and best vet to go with.

Thanks for the feedback! I went ahead and checked out their website. It looks like everyone is about an hour away, give or take. So if you guys recommend Cassleton that's good enough for me! I'll try them first.

I've had experience with a few different ones at the clinic and  Dr. Bartholmey is my regular vet and Dr. Peterson has been on emergency calls that's why I recommend those two.

I had a bad experience with Missouri Valley. It a different vet there, but when I'm home I'm perfectly happy with Horner Equine. I just felt it would probably be easier not to coordinate an exam with a vet 2 hours away if possible.

I agree but if your buying you want to make sure you have a good one doing the exam.....dr Russ no way would I believe a word he said or let him touch a horse even if it wasn't mine....I know that's bad to say....but just wanna make sure you get an honest trustworthy knowledgeable opinion!

I understand that not everyone has the same experience with vets, but I know many people (even some right here on BHW) who use Dr. Russ all the time.

While I take my business to Horner Equine most of the time, I have used Dr. Russ in the past and I would have no problem using him again.

Lindsey Horner (Horner Equine), I absolutely love her!! I haul my horses 4 hours to her! 1 thing I love about her is she is honest. She will tell you the truth and no BS. I know TONS of people that haul to her. I won't bring my horses anywhere else!!
