For 3 days the left side of my tongue was numb and today my who left side has gone all tingly and heavy, left side of my face is numb as well. Not droopy unless I try to smile.
I'm 37 weeks pregnant and apparently its pretty common BUT now I'm having this god awful pain. In the left aide right behind my jaw and under my ear and my vision has deteriorated significantly in the past few hours.I'm not sure if its because my eye is too dry or what. I called my Dr and she didn't seem to concerned but I am lol
And yes this was diagnosed by a doctor.
Thanks for any insight guys! |

Location: Texas | If it were me I would be headed to ER. If I am not mistaken high Blood pressure could trigger Bells Palsy. Better to be sAfe than sorry |

| My mother had this. She recovered fully. Do go to your er or dr. though. I believe they gave her drops for her eyes and maybe they can help you out |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I had it in 1998. I don't remember it hurting OR affecting my vision, although the numbness followed by heaviness and facial weakness is how it normally presents. There are other things that could cause the symptoms you're having. I would get checked out. |

| Has your blood pressure been high? With your symptoms progressing like they are I would be concerned that you have had or could be having a stroke. I would recommend the ER. I'm an RN and your symptoms seem more severe than most Bell's palsy patients I've cared for. |

Location: Texas | Thank you everyone. Definitely not heard stroke...my but stays inside when it hot lol
I ended up going to the minor emergency place here in town and my blood pressure was a little high but not dangerous. They called my OB and she's banned me from anything stressful or strenuous. So pretty much bed rest for me lol she still thinks it just brought on by too much stress but couldn't explain my eye or ear/jaw pain.
So with that being said, any ideas on what I can do for my eye and jaw? I've got some regular eye drops that offer a little relief but ive already used almost a whole bottle in las than 24 hours so its kind of annoying lol

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I've been living with facial paralysis/weakness since 2008. (They severed and grafted my nerve to remove a brain tumor). Get some Thera Tears. They are preservative-free, and you can get different viscosities. They make a thick gel-like one that is great for protection when you're not blinking at all or not all the way closed. It's hard to see through, but it helps. I use the regular kind in the bottle now, my blink is slow, but it works and my eye closes--the thicker ones come in a pack of individual tubes. Regular eye drops have a preservative to prevent bacterial growth that will tear your eyes up if you use them much. And most rewetting drops don't lubricate enough. Thera tears are The Sh!t. |

| I had it as a Sr in HS and I did have problems with my eye and had to tape it shut at night and keep drops in during the day. It went away but I do still have a crooked smile because of it. |

Luckily I'm not actually dropping. You can only tell when I smile or try to close my eyes. She said it could get worse though so fingers crossed that doesn't happen.
Never even heard of this issue until now and I have to tell you I feel terrible for anyone who's had it or any nerve damage. This sucks! |

Location: the end of the rainbow | I couldn't wear my contacts when I had bells palsey because I wasn't blinking properly. Try taping your eye shut with a piece of gauze for a couple hours and see if that helps. I didn't have any pain but everything (even water) tasted like dirt for a couple of weeks and I had to drink out of a straw to keep from spilling everywhere. |

Location: Iowa | I had Bells Palsy many years ago. My physician was concerned enough about it that he refered me to a neurologist who treated me until it was gone. There can be permanent paralysis from it if not taken care of and if your eyelid does not stay closed when you sleep yoou can have a scratched cornea which can cause issues with your vision. There are numerous ideas about what causes it and obviously your physician is not knowledgeable about it so has dismissed it. Not trying to scare you, but please consult someone who is qualified to help you. I had the pain issue as Bells Palsy affects the nerves that come into the face right in front of the ear. The neurologist indicated that if mine progressed any further than it was, he would consider surgery. Please take care! |

Location: Texas | Thanks canchaser. She's an obgyn so probably isn't very knowledgeable on the subject. I'll try and get into my regular family doctor soon. Hopefully he can help more or refer me to someone who can. |
