Sign Up Two men are facing charges in Washtenaw County after police say they called a taxi to help dispose of a woman’s body.
Police say the whole situation unfolded last Saturday morning when a man contacted BWB Transportation and requested a ride to the 2700 block of Golfside Road in Ypsilanti Township.
A taxi driver responded to the man’s location in Ypsilanti and waited as he came out carrying an unknown object that he placed in the back of the van.
The driver took the man to Golfside Road and called her boss, 47-year-old Derrick Campbell, after he exited the vehicle “because of her concern as to what was placed in the rear of the car.”
Campbell arrived and began talking with man, police said, and apparently learned that he was trying to dispose of a body. But instead of intervening, police say Campbell actually helped the man remove the body from the taxi and conceal it alongside the road.
At that time, the taxi driver realized what was going on, drove away from the area and called 911, police said.
Officers responded to the scene and found the body of 21-year-old Mira Dressel, of Ypsilanti, concealed under a bush. At that time, both Campbell and the other man were taken into custody.
On Monday, Campbell was arraigned on multiple charges, including concealing the death of an individual, attempted concealing the death of an individual, conspiracy to commit concealing the death of an individual and failing to report the discovery of a dead body.
The other man, who police believe was acquainted with Campbell, is expected to be arraigned on similar charges Tuesday.
Events leading up to the discovery of Dressel’s body are still under investigation. A cause of death was not immediately released.
