I've recently had one of my good friends jockey my mare as I have been very busy. I've liked the idea of her jockeying her for a while now and have decided to have her run her more in future. What I'd like to know is how everyone splits their winnings, awards, etc. I typically pay for the entries. But I know she would like to rodeo on her in the future and she would be covering that and most of the bigger races since her horse is currently layed-up. How does everyone work this kind of situation out?

I ride a friends ranch gelding that is EXTREMELY fast!! And we have it worked out to where if he pays the entry fee he gets 50% of what I win and if I pay the entry fee he gets 25% of what I win. When the gelding is able to start training/running ( he hurt his leg ;(. ) again I will start going out there ( I go out there all the time bc his daughter and I are really good friends) and working the gelding. We already have it worked out so when I go for the NFR I can run his gelding!!! I hope this helps!!

I kept my horse legged up, paid the entries., hauled him to the shows etc.  When he won money, the entry was paid and the remainder split 50-50.

How we do it is whoever pays the entry fee gets that paid back from the earnings, and what's left over is split 50/50. All prizes other than cash belong to the rider. This is how we do it whether we are the jockey or the horse owner.

This is what I always did when I was jockeying.

I had a girl ride and haul my mare when I had to leave state for a few months. She paid for entries and gas I would let her keep anything she won. I just wanted photos and documentation to show what my mare had won.

Normally I pd the entries, if she won, depending on how much she won, I got my entries back and we split the rest 50/50.  I hauled or she used my truck and trailer. She kept horse at her house, I supplied grain, hay and all expenses

Every horse I have rode for other people the owner came to me. I rode a 1d/pro rodeo horse for a friend bc she had a baby and didn't have time to race and she didn't want him just sitting so she asked me if I wanted to run him.

The ranch gelding the owner was thinking about selling him and asked me to exhibition him. He decided not to sell him and asked me to run him. He lets people ride him but he says him and I are the only ones who can truly ride him. He tells his girlfriend everytime I run his horse that I make him nervous bc his horse does not have a stop!

Must be nice most ppl I know don't even allow others to work their horses. I even know ppl who would rather let their horse sit in the pasture! :(
