She had a breeding to a nice stud and we thought she would cross on that particular stallion awesome so I agreed to lease her for the year etc. since she is a friend I did it for free with the understanding that she insure me as the beneficiary for mortality for a agreed up on price and that she pays for all expenses while mare is I'm her care etc. I am not sure if I would do this for a complete stranger but it is working for us. I also priced her for sale if she decided to purchase her aster she foals etc.

The Color Specialist Posts: 7530 Location: Washington. (The DRY side.)	Yes, it is something that can go south in a hurry. OR it can workout just fine. There are many different ways it can be done. I have only done free leases. Where the lessee pays for EVERYTHING. But no money changes hands between the mare owner and lessee. Some mare owners charge a fee. Personally, I wouldn't do a lease like that. If I'm going to pay a "fee", I may as well buy a mare! The main thing you need is a solid contract. AND a lease they the AQHA. As if there is a lease filed with the AQHA the mare owner can't sell the mare. (A transfer on a leased horse will only be processed if it if being transferred to the lessee.)

Who Wants to Trade? Posts: 4692	AQHA has a lease form that is a lot like a transfer. It is not a contract though. Just a form so the correct person gets listed as the breeder on the foal.

Firecracker Dog Lover Posts: 3175	I leased my mare out for a care lease and in return I got a breeding to her stallion. In the event of mortality I got the breeding and my choice of either a weanling or yearling by the stallion. Had a very good contract crafted by a lawyer and also filled out the lease form from AQHA. Would I do it again? Maybe - depending on the person.

I'd like to breed her myself, but it may be more cost efficient at this time to lease her to someone else to breed her while I save money in the mean time. Midget Lover Location: Kentucky	I leased a mare from BB Magic Gunsmoke. I had a great experience - I ended up buying her! I did complete the AQHA Lease form. I think you just have to be really picky who they go to.
