Hypothetically, you found a horse you really like. It is a finished barrel horse and is still pretty young (less than 10 years old). However, you find out that it had 11 starts on the track as a 2 and 3 year old. Mostly going 400 yards. Assuming it passes a vet check, would you still buy a horse that had raced that much? This is a VERY pricey horse (high 5 figures), so you would want to get many good years out of it.

as long as it passed the pre purchase exam and was clocking where i wanted it to, I wouldn't be afraid at all.

Why wouldn't you, if it passes a vet check? People buy high dollar horses all the time that were running barrel futurities all out, which I feel is even harder on them, mentally and physically. Really, everything hinges on a thorough vet check at a lameness vet.

A horse can have issues from one start and they may not have issues after 100.  As long as it passes the vet check you are not really at any greater risk.  X-rays would not be a waste of money in my opinion.

Ditto to what others have said. If it passes the vet check, why not?

Id buy one off the track before I bought one seriously campaigned as a barrel Futurity horse.
