Tonight I took Streak to his first barrel race in a long time, and he was awesome, especially considering how long it had been since I ran him or worked him at home. It was a new concept where you paid for basically 2 runs or exhibitions plus 10 minutes of open arena w/barrels set up and 10 horses in the pen, and your fastest run counted in the jackpot, so we got to run twice.
I was hoping that since it was kind of a cheap jackpot set up for those just needing runs/outings, everyone would leave their 1D horses at home, but as my luck has gone this year, several of them showed up and made it tough to get in the 4D money with a novice horse. Oh well.
Streak worked really well I thought, though our first barrel is still touch & go and it caused some issues getting lined up for the second. A 16.35 won it and our first run was a 19.4. I was hoping to be under 20 seconds just because we hadn't run in a while and hadn't been doing pattern work for the past month, so that first run made me happy. Then 10 minutes later, we ran an 18.9 on our second run though I let him step off the third barrel a little more than I should have. Probably because we ran at it a little harder than we've been doing. But anyway, I am super proud of him and hopefully we can keep improving the first barrel until its where I want it to be. It's a slow process but he is remembering everything and that makes it a ton of fun.

Nice!! (Don't you hate it when you think you might "sneak" to a soft jackpot and everybody and their dog shows up)! - Ha - I don't think there's a such thing as a soft jackpot anymore!

Thanks!!!
Even the $10 entry fee ones aren't safe. lol. It stinks, but he did pretty well, and if it had been a full second split to the 4D we might have snuck in for some money. I need to pay better attention to splits so I don't take him unless that's the case.

I don't think I posted about his last two outings......I took him to a fun horse show a couple weeks ago where we got 2nd in Ride A Buck (by about 2 seconds...if I hadn't had to kick to get him into a lope we could have won....I knew I should have put my bumper spurs on LOL), 3rd in western pleasure, 3rd in the flag race and 3rd in barrels. Then last Wednesday I goat tied off him at another fun show. He was awesome even though its a long way to the ground! We got 2nd and if I hadn't fumbled my string we would have probably won. Streak did everything I asked.

We've also let my brother & sister-in-law's nephew ride him alone at the house. Seth is probably 9 or 10 years old (I never can remember) and he is learning to ride but doesn't have a lot of experience. We turned him loose on Streak the last time he came down and I thought we were never going to get him to stop riding. LOL. They got along really well and Streak is now Seth's mount of choice anytime his family visits mine.

Nice job.  You do such a good job training your horses and running them too.  Streak looked real good.
I enjoy watching your videos because it is obvious how much fun you are having.  Keep having fun.

Aw thanks! What gets me the most about Streak last night is that we have not been working the pattern anywhere since early July. I've been gone a lot rodeoing and so he's had several weekends off, and other times he's just been a grand entry horse. shoot I haven't even been to hardly any jackpots this summer, so he is really having to retain information from back in June when we were doing a lot of training. Having a smart horse will always make the trainer look good!
PS - Before I rode, I helped Matt get his three saddled, warmed up, cooled out, etc., so getting on my own horse was really relaxing after being his assistant for almost two hours! LOL.

Streaker (as we called him) makes everything fun!! If horses smile- he is always smiling!! I am so happy RWJ took him and gave him a chance. Our own little BHW rescue!!!

He is a very happy horse, that's for sure! He does make everything fun, and it's a refreshing change of pace to get on a horse and just go have fun doing whatever I feel like that day. He's got a home for life with my family, though we may wind up fighting over him! :
