I was looking for some reviews. I know lots of people have ordered and used their omeprezole paste with good results. How have everyones experiences with the Pentosan or pentosan gold been? Has anyone used these products? Do you feel like you get the same results as with pentosan products from other places? Any reactions experienced by your horses?

I get mine from Wedgewood pharmacy.  Had my horse injected February 2012, my vet said see you in 3-6months-there is visible arthritis in one hock that the horse had hung in a fence.  I asked about pentosan, vet said give it a try....well I just went back this last week to have the same hock injected.  Love the stuff!  I use the regular pentosan on a monthly basis.

Love the product and the website is easy to use. I did the loading dose, 4 doses once a week for 4 weeks, then monthly injections. My horse's performance improved and the inflamation stayed down. I like the product because its affordable and I havent had any back order isssues.

I have used them in the past for Pentosan and the delivery was super quick and I felt like my horse did well after the loading dose. I have heard a few bad things about them as far as not answering how or where their product is compounded. I did notice there wasnt a manufacturer's name on the bottle. While several people find the company sketchy, i was trying to see if anyone had any good or bad results with the product itself that comes from preracehorse. Thanks to those who have already replied! :)

Just a head's up, it's more money on horseprerace than getting it through your vet. I pay 125 for 50 mL of what's equivalent to the "gold". I think they charge twice as much.

I think so too because you do not need a perscription through horseprerace....
It was cheaper to have the vet examine and write a script than constantly paying the inflated price from horseprerace.

It depends on your vet.... My vet charges $265 a bottle for the same thing that is $200 on Horseprerace

Good point BUT, your vet should give you the perscription or call it in and then you can direct order from Wedgewood, no upcharge from the vet :)  Food for thought....the vet is making $$ on you because they open the box and call you when it comes in.  Mine is delivered to my door for the price the pharmacy charges.  The vet should not be able to upcharge a compounded product.  Wedgewood is a pharmacy just like you and I go to.

So price aside... any reviews on the product from preracehorse itself? Same results as the stuff from Wedgewood?

Not all vets will just give a script or call it in for you. They want to make that money.

I do understand that but I think there is a fine line of legality if they are upcharging a compounded item.  I make the investment with my vet by going to him for exams, radiographs, injections etc. mine will not just call in whatever I want unless we have a good relationship which means I pay him for his services but splitting hairs over pharmaceuticals seems a little unethical to me.  I feel fortunate to have a great vet to work with.
To the OP sorry I hijacked your thread but I would consider the product to be wonderful no matter where you get if from.

Yeah, I wasn't real happy with my vet when I asked her if she'd call me in a script for it and she didn't want to, but then didn't want to order it for me, because she was unfamiliar with it....she was just weird about the whole deal.  Usually she's good to work with.  I dunno.....

So, that's why I opend this thread, I am considering horseprerace because I wouldn't need a script.

When vets do that, I can understand, if the reason is they are scared to prescribe something. Some take it as their name being "on the line" if something goes wrong, and I respect someone who doesn't prescribe items willy nilly if they don't know what will happen.

It's not cool if they won't do it because they would rather charge more for a product they already stock.
