Just weaned my babies today they have been on cob feed with their mothers but now I want to feed them different. What is the best feed for weaning tat won't break the bank?

I'm transitioning my weaning over to Triple Crown Growth. She has been eating the Legends Mare and Foal with mom but I will feed her this for the next few years most likely. Really like it so far and so does she!

A little pricey but was well worth it, I agree and loved Triple Crown Growth

If you have access to woodys futurity blend that is an awesome feed, very little volume that puts a lot of  punch on a weanling!

I'd agree with Woody's or Progressive Nutrition's ration balancers. Same philosophy with both - high quality nutrition.

Be very careful transitioning since you have just weaned - that's a heck of a big feed change already and you can get leg troubles if you make another change too quickly. That said, I think your instinct to get them off COB is a very good one - lots of energy there but not enough protein and you need high quality protein.

Good luck!

14% protein. I'd go with Ultium Growth or Strategy or Omolene 300.

I have a few of my older horses on Renew Gold would that be a good feed to start them on or not? I am loving the results i am seeing on the older horses but just not sure if it is good enough for weanlings.

Every weanling on Potter Ranch is on Renew Gold. But, they have pretty good hay. I don't think you could ever get them to change. Total protein on your weanling program should be 15%. That is what the protein level in Renew Gold is. That means that the rest of your program would need to be at that level also. If your roughage quality is lower, you should add a protein supplement to support it. If your roughage protein contribution is at 15% or higher, additional protein would not need to be added.

I like Ultium Growth. I believe it has 16% protein to help them grow well. I feed at half recommended amount.

ADM has one of the best chicken feeds because it is made with animal proteins. Chickens are not meant to be vegetarians and most feeds(Purina, Nutrena, etc) are vegetarian feeds.

I had great results on Ultium Growth as well. No leg/joint problems. My Mighty Mind Bender/Mystic Eye gelding is massive. As a late 2 year old he packed Elk. This year as I've started him on the pattern the power from his hindquarters leads me to believe he should be a tripping horse.
I'm not high on the premixed feeds but the Ultium did what it was suppose to do!

You better feed the recommendation unless you have free choice mineral for the foal set out to eat as needed.

We are very limited on feed choices in are area. Mine have been on Omolene but this week the feed store was out and I got Strategy. Feeding horses whether its babies, performance, or seniors are expensive so not sure what price range you are looking for. Horses+ Proper Care=Breaking the Bank

I really liked Ultium Growth too, but you really have to feed quite a bit I thought. And it was costly. The Jr GLO is spendy too, but you feed much less.
