I'm not sure what exactly you are asking here.

But, if I were in your shoes, I would let the rescue deal with the girl. She can work with them to get the horse back. I would not offer to truck the horse to the girl. If she couldn't care for him before, and gave him away, now she has to deal with the consequences of where her give-a-way horse ended up. If she truly has the means to get him back, she'll make it happen.

"It's KILLING me after the time, energy, and effort I put into this horse."

As to ^ this, it's just one of those things. The horse was free. Even if she promised him to be sound, stuff like this happens.

When she gave you the horse, was there any talk of what would happen if you decide you don't want the horse any more? As a courtesy, it would have been nice to offer her first right of refusal, even if she never told you she wanted it.
Since it sounds like there was no agreement of any kind, she's SOL. If she was that worried about the horse, she should have kept him herself. Once you give up a horse, you have no say on what happens to it unless there is a signed contract.
My suggestion to you is to let her handle it. If she wants the horse back that bad, she can figure out how to get it.

First, you should always have a contract, no matter what.  And second, did you not talk to the original owner about his issues?

Sounds like you placed him in a good home, its not like you went out and sold him to make money off of him, you gave him to this place, she should be happy about this.

LOL well she said she contacted the "police" that he was stolen, but then I said, I'm sorry you have no contract  and I did what was best for the horse. She said "well send me the address and I will drop it."

Please tell me you didn't give her the address.
I can only picture her going to that address, raising holy heck to the new owners, threatening them that they have a stolen horse.
