We feed a sweet feed mix from the local elevator. But, I've been looking into alfalfa pellets and oats. I was wondering if anyone feeds this, and what kind of ration you feed?

I have fed that combo before. I mixed two parts oats to one part alfalfa pellets, and grass or grass hay. All the horses liked it and did well.  It's easier for me to just feed a pellet these days, and two of my horses are on senior feed.

I hand mix mine oats, alfalfa pellets and beet pulp. I adjust according to horse (age and work load) and time of year.  It has worked better for my horses than any feed that I have bought, and I know exactly how much of what they are getting. I used to add corn as well but my horses seemed more body sore. My dad, however, adds corn to his and has no issues.

haven't added oats but do alfalfa, minerals and rice bran. I did choose the cubes over the pellets to encourage slower eating and chewing.

I feed oats and alfalfa cubes (soaked).
IDK the wt but I feed half scoop oats and half scoop cubes. We have plenty of grass in the summer but I up the alfalfa in the winter or when I am hauling.

Alfalfa pellets are the number one thing horses choke on. I say that with having experienced this personally in the last year (a 2 year old, 11 year old and 14 year old, all with good teeth, but choked in different instances) If you're going to feed the pellets, I suggest you soak them.

I wet down all of my feed and have it pretty sloppy. I feel this helps with digestion and puts off the possibility of colic. I also want to avoid any possible choking. My horses literally are slurping and clean the buckets at each feeding. Mine also take their supplements and/or powdered meds much better when mixed with the wet feed. This is just my experience though.

Thank you for stating that! Its hard to get an answer on whether to soak pellets. I know a lot of people that feed it straight. I have only heard to soak the cubes and have been holding off feeding pellets because I didn't know to soak or not. Thank you!!!

I don't usually feed alfalfa pellets but when I do, I always soak...I just feel like the added water is not only good for their digestive tract but also (and I may be wrong here) aids in the break down of the particles making it easily digestible.
