Location: Southeast, Texas | I would love to see some Strait Firewater offspring, hear about their personalities, how tall did they get? He's on my list, but honestly shorter than I like. The mare in question is taller, and it's been said that he throws bigger babies.. I would love to see and hear about them!

| I dont personally own one but know many people who do. The majority of them I know were out of smaller mares and didnt get much taller than 15h. My best friend has one and shes 14.2. And another close friend have 3 4 year olds out of him and they are 14.1-14.2 ... might grow a tad more.
Nice horses though, good minds.
I know he was recently sold to TX but here is his page from MN

Location: ILLINOIS | Ive heard from a few that they are broncy boogers. I dont mind the buckers so not an issue for me. Ive heard others say theyve had no issues. There is always a bad seed in a good bundle. |

| I personally know the stud and know of his offspring, they all have HEART they are super easy to get along with and the stud is awesome to be around after her run on him she would put her 4 year old daughter on him and he would just drop his head and walk around with her. The colts get big and have nice bones that hold up well as well. I have seen two yearlings this year and they are BEEFY and tall already. |

Location: Missouri | Curious to know what about his pedigree says "broncy"? PM me if necessary...just wondering, and I'd like to learn as much as possible. That's the first I've heard anyone say that about him or his offspring. <---I've been hoping to breed my mare to him for a while now. |

Location: ILLINOIS | I don't believe it was any fault of his or his pedigree. The things I've heard about him are amazing. And its only been a few colts that I've heard were really broncy and when spooked, bucked like a bronc. I believe it was more on the mares pedigree because the good from this sire definitely outweighs the bad. I'm considering picking up one that a friend of mine has had issues with. Shes a real sensitive mare and can't handle being pushed hard without coming unglued. But like I said. I've heard more good than bad, and there is always a bad seed in a good bundle. :)
Personally, I'd breed to him. If you have a good tempered mare who tries and is well mannered then I wouldn't worry too much about it! :) |

Location: Feeding those that need me | We recently purchased Strait Firewater and are very excited for his move to Texas. I have not gotten the priveledge of riding one of his colts yet, but every Fire Water Flit I have ever been around has been super easy to get along with, quiet, and willing. I've never had trouble with broncy-ness.
I have spoken to several (okay, a lot more than several) of his foal's owners and only one has had issues with bucking and she expressed to me that she thinks they pushed the mare too hard too fast for the futurities. The mare in question was also Sonny Dee on the bottom side, who are known for their explosive bucking fits. I won't touch any horse with Sonny Dee Bar on its pedigree with a 10 foot pole, but that is JMHO - I know some who have horses with him on their papers that love them.
Every other foal owner I have spoken with have all had nothing but good things to say about their colts - how easy they were to start, how well they take everything in stride, and how easy it is to WIN on one. That, along with his quiet, willing personality, is why we decided to purchase him.
Our website is under construction right now, but as another poster mentioned, you can still see the information on him under Erin's site. Our web designer said we should have the site live in 2-3 weeks. We do have a facebook at www.facebook.com/lazysusanpaints if you would like to follow us and keep up with the latest news (like the breeding special we are running on him until January 1st).
Thanks for thinking of our boy, everyone! |

Will you be standing him via Shipped Semen??
Was always interested in breeding my paint mare to him.

I think we are talking about the same mare, she was never entered, but was on track for the futurities when she started bucking. |

Congrats on your purchase.
Ive only heard of one being a bucker and I am sure its the same one you are referring to. 1 out of as many as he has, is a ratio I am willig to work with. I helped a friend of mine with hers for their first ride. Swung on her bareback, walked around.. not even a flinch (& shes out of a peppy san mare who was a bit squirly so I expected something... nope)
Strait is such a nice horse, I was sad to see him go to Texas but I'm sure he's gonna do really well for you. Bayers have done a great job with him. You're gonna have fun! |

Location: Way up North | If you are talking about a different one my mistake but I'm going to assume the broncy one in question was my mare I had for sale on here. She does have Sonny Dee Bar but it is six generations back on the topside of her dam's pedigree and her dam wasn't a bucker at all, in fact I won the state in the training project as a 15 year old with no experience. We rode probably a dozen by that same sire and none of them were broncy either. We also did not push her to get her ready for the futurities, she was only ridden at a walk/trot as a two year old, sent to a colt starter as a 3 yr old, and lightly started on the pattern as a 4 yr old. Her half sister was not broncy at all. I have two more out of the same mare so we will see what they do. She wasn't going to work for me so I sold her and her new owners are doing great with her. That said my sister has two mares by Strait and neither were broncy. They are good size with a alot of bone and nicely colored. Her five year old has won her a nice chunk of change for the few times she has been entered. There are lots and lots of other Strait colts that are super nice and doing well in the barrel pen. Unfortunately for me mine didn't work out but tons of other ones are. He did add height to mine and she is put together as good as you could ever find. |

Location: MN | The colt in my avatar is by Strait (out of a reining/working cow mare). I know I took more recent pics, but the attached one is him as a 4 yr old. He is one of the most level headed horses ever! When he was just green broke, he could be rode bareback in a halter around home. My daughter would often cool him out for me this past summer, and he is just a intermediate/beginner level rider. My time to ride is very sporadic, but Vin never took an opportunity to be sassy. Even when I was pregnant my husband didn't argue when I snuck on ride on Vin!
I don't think he throws big babies as a standard. Foals I've known were born appropriate size and averaged between him and the dam.

Location: somewhere up north | The majority of his foals are under the age of 4. His oldest foal was in 2005 and he had two foals. 2006, 0 foals. Then we bought him and the first year we bred 5 mares because we were also getting married that year. We have broke out a good majority of his babies, either ones we raised, or people that asked us to start them. The two oldest foals are excelling with youth riders. Sweet Painted Fire we started as a late 3 year old (we bought her that Spring and she was in no condition to break out..she needed some groceries and she was barely halter broke...so we waited on starting her). I ran her in futurities as a 5 year old and she did very well. My niece started competing on "Norma" the next year when Maddy was 10. They haven't looked back since. She has won buckles for both her and my nephew and they just started breakaway roping on her and she also runs barrels and poles. She can be seen on our website along with a few other foals we have raised and competed on http://www.lazyearperformancehorses.com/viewHorses.php?category=2.
These are the names of the ones I can think of off the top of my head that we have started and not one of them was broncy or bucked. SOO easy! Nothin But Firewater Sweet Painted Fire Im The Fireman Just Givit Away Firewater Strait Lace This Fillys on Fire The Love Bug Firewater Frosty Lady Burn With Desire Fmous Last Wordz Nosey Firewater Jus Want To Dance
Here is a testimonial I received just yesterday on a Strait baby we raised and sold a year ago. He is now 4. "Strait Firewater x Bully Moon So proud to own this gelding! We really got "lucky" cause you never know what you are truly going to get when buying a horse. When we went to look at him in August of 2013 he hadn't been ridden since October of 2012. Erin's dad takes him out and starts lunging him and then puts weight in the saddle and just hops on and walks around with only a halter and lead rope on..Pete and I looked at each other and said yeah we need to buy him. Since then we have never regretted a day owning him! He is really awesome. Extremely laid back and willing to work when asked! He is the horse you can leave for a week or two and hop on and have no issues. Never selling this boy! Erin Bayer is completely honest about her horses and I would buy from them again! Thank you for Conway guys! Also thanks to Lacey Kuschel for putting barrel time on him, we are really happy you rode him and very pleased with the results! I am excited to see what next year will bring for barrel racing and mounted shooting. So starts the Conway album!" |

Location: somewhere up north | Here is a video of a Strait baby at the age of 5 doing roman riding at a rodeo. I don't stand on my broke 12 year olds, this says a lot for a 5 year old! This was their 2nd performance! Impressive!! SHe is the one on the left (buckskin paint mare). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIMJLbLzKvk&feature=youtu.be
As to the size, I always tell people that he has thrown to the height of the mare and often times larger. So, people saying that a horse is 14.2, well it was likely that the mare was smaller or some other factor as to why they didn't get as big.
I wish more of the ones we raised were Strait's size (14.3), my husband keeps stealing them from me because he is tall and says they are too big for me. LOL!
I am happy to provide you names of people who have his foals so you can talk with them first hand. THANKS!!! |
