For those that have owned one... What is your opinion? Would you recomend one? Do they hold up? Do they have a deep seat? Any information is appreciated!

I have a combo barrel/breakaway saddle and love it! It's at least 10 years old and has held up great. Fits a lot of horses...I'll probably always buy Tod Slone's.

I have owned 7 of various sizes and types. I have loved every single one of them. They have all held up well and fit well. Are possibly a bit heavier made then most barrel saddles. I am riding a roping saddle that has held up to breaking colts for many years. It's been flipped on, rolled on, drug around and still looks darn near new! I wish I lived closer to the saddle shop so I could haul my hard to fit guy down and have a saddle custom made one. You can't go wrong with these saddles!

My favorite saddle hands-down.  I won mine in 2005 and it is my "go-to" saddle.  I will swap it from horse to horse on days I am just exercising, and it fits them all well.  I can't believe I got lucky enough to get a trophy saddle that nice.  Most of my others are not.  If I had to purchase a barrel saddle, this is for certain what I would buy.  From what I have seen of the used ones for sale, they hold their value well.

I have one I won in 2003....rides good, fits most. It is deeper than my Ammerman (that I LOVE), but not as deep as other barrel racing saddles. Well made---DEFINITELY!

Did you all have the Diamond S series saddles or the custom TS series?

I have one that I believe is a Diamond S. It is 10 years old and I've used it pretty hard, and it's in excellent shape. It has a medium-deep seat. It fits a lot of horses, though I'm not sure which tree it has--to me it is a medium-width fitting gullet. I don't think it is any heavier than anything else I've had. Really great saddles!

Mine doesn't have a real deep seat but it's made of VERY good leather - probably the best-made saddle I have ever owned - I can't imagine it EVER wearing out.

When I spoke with the Sloan company they told me the diamond s brand is more factory made with lesser quality materials.

I have an original sloan, it is a well made saddle, I have not seen a diamond s

Mine does not have a deep seat, but sloan tethers the stirrups forward so you definitely sit in it, sometimes I have a hard time getting out fast.

The difference in the TS ans the Diamond S are the trees. One tree is hand made on a lathe (TS) and the other is a factory tree (diamond s). Other then that they are pretty much the same. I have had both and feel both are quality saddles that you couldn't go wrong with.

I was also told the leather is inferior in the diamond s and the tooling on the diamond s is machine done, whereas the sloan is all hand done.

This is what the people at sloan told me

I have a Slone Diamond S that is, without a doubt, a high quality saddle.  It came with nylon latigo and billets, while the TS comes with leather. I changed them to leather.  I've been to the saddle shop a few times and the TS appears to be built of higher quality leather than the Diamond S, but the Diamond S leather is certainly higher quality than most saddles I've seen.  Mine is well used, but does not look like it is.  I think they build good saddles!
