Possible Stone Bruise?

Well guess what, I have my 3rd lame horse this year! I'm thinking/hoping this one isn't so serious though. I have to video him today and get a hold of my vet, but it most likely was a stone bruise, so I just wanted to ask what you do for those? I know if it goes untreated it can abcess, but I don't know how to treat it! He has thin soles, especially on that left front that he's lame on right now and we were walking on rocky ground when I noticed it. I did find a rock in his hoof and there was no heat/swelling/sensitivity anywhere on his leg.

I just went through this. If it is just a bruise and not an abscess, then you should soak his foot in Epsom Salt for a few days and give him Bute. By the 5th or 6th day, you can stop giving Bute and see if the horse trots off sound. We are still soaking my horse 8 days later but just to be safe because I need to use him this weekend. We stopped giving Bute on Sunday
(gave the last dose on Saturday
) and he rode off sound yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't re-bruise the foot.

Be careful about soaking the foot too much. You can do more damage than good by making the hoof even softer. Look into hoof packs and poultices that are made to help soothe sore feet. You can look up instructions to make your own poultice or you can purchase epsom salt poutlice. There are other poultices out there as well but epsom salt is pretty popular for helping with sore feet.

Call and ask your vet about administering a high dose of ace, as this bottoms out their blood pressure, I did this with my one horse as soon as the raise happened the next day he was fine.
Also ask your vet about administering ioxiprine as this will break down the red blood cells faster.
Magic cushion works wonders drawing out inflammation of the foot, I have also used this and had a sound horse in 3 days no abscess.
Good luck
