Location: At A Barrel Race!		 So I recently got a new Yearling which has been amazing. He's been the best for me so far, and he is getting along really well with my other two older barrel geldings. 
Today I thought that I would take him for a walk around the pasture to work on bonding some more. (Our pasture is 10 acres) He has NEVER had a problem before so I thought we would be fine. We got a couple 100 yards out and he starts whinnying and pulling trying to get back to my geldings that were up in the barn in the stalls. Well I kept him by me and finally he turned his butt, kicked out, and bolted back towards the barn. So I ran after him and got him. I tried to go out again, we got a little further and he did the same thing. By that time I was pissed, so I grabbed him, practically had to drag him by his halter to keep him from rearing with me and spinning to go back to the other horses. 

We only rent this 10 acres, and the guy doesn't want us to put up any permant fencing, so all we really have is two pastures that are 5 acres a piece. I did put him out in the back 5, But he was running all over the place when I FINALLY got him out there. I realize horses are herd animals and some people don't like calling them "Buddy Sour" But I do not want my yearling to act like this, especially when he gets older and I need to take him out and work with him myself. 

Does anyone have any tips with this? For now I guess I will just put him in his stall everynight, but while we are updating the stalls in our actually barn, we had to make temporary stalls out of a run in shed. So, my geldings can still go up by him so thats not really doing anything either. 

Any tips would be great, I'm just kind of lost at what to do, I've only had him since September 1st!

Location: Red Raiderland		You need to start doing some serious round pen work with this boy.  He needs to have respect for you and know YOU are his leader not the other horses. You need to be able to engage those hindquarters and WORK his hinney off so he knows the easy thing is easy and a place of rest and the hard things will make him work-work-work.  Go get some panels and put up a temporary round pen and do some googling on working a horse in the round pen for respect.
