Eat more non-starch vegetables, less fruit, more lean protein and more fiber.  For every hour you sit you need at least 5 minutes of walking. It's easier to get up and wander every hour than put all of the 5 minutes together for a day.  Drink lots of water, cut out soda and tea.

no sugar or anything with wheat and no kind of drink with sugar or sweetner in it.  Sweetner or sugar free is worse than sugar for not losing weight.

I thought 100% whole wheat stuff was good for you?? I've been hearing a lot of folks say avoid wheat lately... I don't get it

Glutten, ie wheat and other grains like it are not good for you.  "Whole Grains" has become the current feel good and healthy phrase.  Grains and sugars cause internal inflamation in your joints and around your organs.  Chocolate is my vice, still have some every now and then but I have cut out all grains.  I have noticed my knees are no longer sore.  I work out a lot and thought at 53 sore knees just went with the territory but after cutting out grains they feel great.

Wheat today is not like it was 50 years ago. The original seed has been so modified it is no longer healthy. Like another said it causes inflamation.

Start by reading Wheat Belly and Grain Brain
Follow the eating guidelines for ^^^
Drink plenty of water

I lost 12 lbs in a month doing nothing but changing my diet - went to low carb, high fat, and dropped 12 pounds.

So glad someone mentioned this.....I am interested in cutting out all grains to see if it will help with my terrible back pain and all over stiffness and inflamation. So which do you recommend....Grain Brain or Wheat Belly? What are the differences?

I am 45 and I lift 45 minutes 2 x a week (I figured it out and am lifting almost 120,000 lbs and doing 1220 reps a session) and run 3 miles at least 3x a week in the sand wash and have only lost about 15 lbs since January. I realize I  have gained some muscle but am totally frustrated with how slow it is coming off. My major food downfalls are that I only like a few vegetables, I can't eat anything salty because salt makes me retain water, I LOVE fruit and dairy although I don't eat much cheese or butter and I am a carbaholic. I feel like with everything being said about this or that being bad for you I should just stop eating all together!

Moderation is key to starting to clean up your diet. What you do in the kitchen will beget the results in the gym. You can workout for HOURS everyday, but if you don't clean up the diet the results will not be seen.

Something to keep in mind ... everyone has a different metabolism. That said, some people NEED more carbs, more/less fat, more/less protein. You feed a horse for a particular event, you train them for that event - treat yourself the same.

OP - Have you removed carbonated beverages from your diet? Have you met with a nutritionist? I might start there and get a game plan/ support system together to help jump start and kick yourself into gear. Having someone to help keep you accountable is what really helped me drop 20 lbs since Feb. and keep it off. It is a process and not an easy one for anyone. You CAN do it!! Good Luck!!!

Hate to say it but all you 45 year olds or 50 year olds that are still barrel racing, running, walking or going to the gym or what have you, just wait till you are 60!!! With that said, keep it up cause it doesn't get any easier losing the weight or keeping it off. I am doing all that, I don't drink soda, don't consume sugar, eat healthy, take my vitamins, take Plexus and still NOTHING!!! So frustrating!!

I would start with Wheat Belly; it's more "user friendly" to read. Grain Brain goes more indepth so if you start with a basic understanding that you get from Wheat Belly, it's an easier book to understand.

Thank you! I'm thinking of trying the Wheat Belly Total Health from Amazon on Audible.com so that I don't actually have to sit down and read it but still get the information. Thanks!

ketogenic diet is when you eat 70% fat to teach your body to use fat for fuel. i stick to good fats and don't eat a ton of bacon like some do. I stick with avocados, macadamia nuts, veggies cooked in olive oil, green smooties with coconut oil, full fat dressing on salads. after a while you can cut your calories and your body just burns it's own fat. some people stick with it; I just use it to get started as I had blood sugar problems which this diet cures. I now am kind of doing a modified ideal protein diet, with some high fat days. the trick is not to cheat with carbs as that will set you back. cheat with fat if you have too; as it keeps your body using fat for fuel the first three days I don't have any calorie restrictions until i get over the ketoflu. then I use the calories for maintaining for a few weeks then cut the fat and loose weight I find I don't think about food all time anymore

I have had success losing weight with this as well as my boarder (she has lost over 20# in 3-4 months)
Base calorie intake of 1200 - my starting weight was 155 and now I am 145 in 3 weeks
If you are heavier than 160 you may need to start with a slightly higher calorie intake

You have to drink 80oz of water daily (not including other beverages)
You need to get 60-80 grams of protein daily,We limit bread/wheat as much as possible - maybe only have it with 1 meal a day, Avoid protein shakes - use good food - try to get 70% veggies in every meal

If you exercise you add back in 100 calories of food for every hour you are working out
I try to work out at the gym for min of 45 minutes 3 days a week - then I do my barn chores and riding as usual

We track with app - MyFitnessPal

We only monitor calorie intake and protein - as usually the rest will fall into place if you are keeping those 2 in check
because its hard to get to 60 grams of protein if you arent eating right

I have 1 meal a week that I can have anything I want or any dessert I want - but to be honest after eating clean if I eat something "not so healthy" I almost feel so bad afterwards that its not worth it

***** YOU HAVE TO TRACK EVERYTHING THAT GOES IN YOUR MONTH *****
That 1 peppermint, that piece of chocolate - everything counts
