Breeders and Buyers-I need your help!
I am looking at buying a mare that is in foal. What precautions do I need to take? How do I verify she is bred to said stud? If the foal dies in utero, does the LFG covey to me? How do I verify that she is indeed the mare that matches the papers? I've been advised to be cautious of the person that I am buying from so I'm tempted to just pass on the mare.

You need to get a vet to verify that she is still in foal. Things happen and mares can slip at any point in their pregnancy. You can call the owner or the ranch where the stallion stands and ask if that mare was booked to that stud, and if they had a confirmed pregnancy from the owner. Sometimes the LFG transfers to the next owner and sometimes it does not. Just depends on what the stallion contract said. When we buy a mare in foal, we do not transfer her out of previous owners name until that baby is alive and healthy. You will just have to look at discription or pictures on the papers to determine it is that mare.
