I purchase an automatic barrel horse, very light in the mouth, previous owner design their own bit, so no help with that, what would be your suggestion to start out with. My husband rides his ranch horse in a hackamore, he told me to try that, any thoughts?

When I buy a horse I buy the bit that he rides in unless it's something readily available, or I already have it.

Contact the old owner about what their bit was and see if you can get a custom bit maker, like L and W to make you one like it.

I always get the bit from the owners or get one made that is the exact same and made by the exact person if they are still available.. I would contact the previous owners. If you liked him running in that bit when you tried him out why change things up now

Ask the people that had him and ask about the bit, see if they will sell it to you are help you out by having one made. This would be easier then trying to find a different bit that might work.
