Anyone used Tildren IV (not the regional) for hocks?  My injections are not lasting (about two months) and my vet told me I might have better luck with the Tildren.  Anyone went this route?  Were you happy with the results?

From what I heard tildren does not have any impact on cartilage, for the price of tildren, I would be looking at

Surgical fusion

IRAP therapy

PRP therapy

Tildren costs have went up in the past few months and I believe it is now 1200 just for the drug

To fuse the joints surgically it is around 5k then you never have to look at them again

I asked both of my lameness vets about Tildren for my horse. They both told me that they've seen a little bit of success with it and they would try it if I wanted them to, but for the price tag they said they really have not seen the results everyone thought they were going to see with it.

I know there are people who have seen success with it ..... just depends if you are willing to spend $$ to try it (and it might not work). That's your call.

Thanks for your thoughts.  My vet told me Tildren has come down in cost.  It would cost around $650.  A year ago I was quoted around 1200.  So, cost isn't the issue as much as will it work?  I know each case is different, but I thought maybe someone had tried it and might have some feedback.  Thank you for your replies.

My vet charges 800 for full body IV tildren. Everything is included. THe FDA approved an American version of the drug that will be out shortly. That will reallt help with cost. I have only used it for Single Limb profusion and it has made all the difference!

Last week I was quoted $2000 out the door, laser fusion at Oakridge Equine with Dr Hague. I sent my X-rays in for consultation immediately. Injections lasting about 8 weeks, fingers crossed!!!!!

 What is the recovery time?

Also, I used Tildren for feet. I was told hocks might get some benefit as well. We did IV and then followed up with regional profusion. We sold the horse but I do know the horse is still competing successfully although I am not sure if they are injecting hocks anymore.

Recovery time is 90-120 days, with a strict excercise and rehab schedule for the best results. Sometimes takes as long as 6 months. I got my call back from the vet, I signed mine up, he goes into surgery Wednesday. Wish is luck!

how is your horse doing?  It's been a bit now and I wondered if it was successful, or do you know yet?

We have used bothe...the entire body and regional. Our vet was one of the first use it. A lot depends on the age and exactly what condition they have. We do it the entire body about twice a year. We have had really good results on our open horse. I think he was 12 when he first got got (ex-race horse and did derbies and futurities. Our op guy had 2 right knee surges plus has a bad left foot. We are planning on doing futurities with ou 2 YO and he will get Tildren vs. injections. Now we did IRAP and noticed nothing. My open guy get all kinds of supplements. I personally feel that the younger you use Tildren on. The better. Our open horse got his first treatment at 11. I think if he had been younger it would have helped even more. He did wonderful on it anyway. In our opinion it's better than injections. Hunters/Jumper/Dressage people use it a lot. I hope that helps.
