We had a Courts roping saddle made for our appendix bred horse (obviously most roping saddles arnt crafted to fit a "racey bred" horse). They measured him and made a tree just for his build, the rest was just whatever details you prefer. The quality is great, it's a beautiful and functional saddle.

Double J will custom fit the tree to your horse. You can talk to them and they will explain exactly how they are made. Not on an assembly line. I'm sure Jackie Ganter, Latricia Duke, Brittany Pozzi, Karsyn Daniels, etc. weren't picky at all about the saddle they ride in. If anyone watched the WPRA finals their horses looked soooo sore from those crappy saddles, that's probably why none of them have ever won a big title before.

eta: Same with Sherry Cervi, I'm sure she just went out and said who cares if Stingray's back gets sore, Martin Saddlery wants to sponsor me then sure.

firewaterfuelsme - 2014-10-27 2:34 PM If double j are made one by one all hand from tree to finished product then how does that one person make so many cause there are hundreds of them out there?

Because they have about 50 employees. They also make all of
their own trees.

To the person bashing Double J for being assembly line has clearly never ridden in one, or even seen one for that matter. Both of mine are great, well balanced, quality products. Trust me, I'm very picky about what I ride my horses in. When I didn't have any saddles that fit my gelding, I laid him off until I got something that fit him. Going out and racing to me isn't near as important as a healthy, happy horse. Now when someone rides my horse, I don't let them throw their own saddle on, unless it is a Pozzi tree.

Also, I like how Martin started producing their trees in house so they could monitor the quality of them. I recently watched a video of Clinton Anderson going to Martin and it showed it all from the tree making, cutting the pieces of leather, tooling, oiling, and everything.

To the original poster on of this thread, if I could have any custom fit to my horse and made to my exact wants, I would go with Larry Coats or Stoney. Hands down, those are my two personal favorites. But definitely get your horse fit before spending that kind of money. I know a lady who bought a $6,500 Stoney down at the NFR last year just because she thought it was pretty. Don't get me wrong, it is very pretty, but the seat is way to small for her and the tree doesn't fit her horse AT ALL. Definitely get your horse fitted before buying!
