Honesty and Hard Work
With God all things are possible
Posts: 3917
What do honesty and hard work have in common? According o Solomon, both are expressions of wisdom that indicate our walking in the path of the Lord.
The Golden Rule of the Wise
Proverbs 24:23-26 These things also belong to the wise; it is not good to show partiality in judgment. He who says to the wicked You are righteous, him the people will curse; nations will abhor him. But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight and a good blessing will come upon them. He who give a right answer kisses the lips.
These verses remind us that dishonest partiality in a court of law is universally rejected. Those who acquit the wicked are cursed and those who condemn the wicked are blessed. Honest answers show the respect to others that God requires of believers . Seems simple enough, but lest we think we would never violate this important principle, verses 28 and 29 give a second example to personalize the dilemma.
v 28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, for would you deceive with your lips? Do not say, I will do to him just as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.
The scenario of getting even with a neighbor who wronged us might tempt us to make an exception to the standard of honesty. Trusting God to deal with those who hurt us requires speaking the truth even when it is not expedient. Wisdom means that we allow God to deal with others in His time rather than seeking to do it with our tongue.
The virtue of hard work should also characterize a Christian. For example, a person who builds a house should work hard, save resources, and carefully plan before construction begins v 27 Prepare your outside work , make it fit for yourself fit the field; and afterward build your house.
To contrast, the text presents the devastation of laziness with a picture of one who dose not labor in his field or vineyard verse 30-34 I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; and there it was,all overgrown with thorns; its surface was covered with nettles; its stone walls was broken down. When I saw it, I consider it will; I looked on it and received instruction; a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; so shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
This is not the path of wisdom
see Proverbs 6:10:11 also
FOR IT IS WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.
