Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Ok so our bedroom is a MESS! Not sure what the previous owners were doing but they re did the drywall in our bedroom. But they didn't do it correctly. We can see all of the panels on the wall clear as day and the walls have been painted but you can see the lines from each piece. Future hubby and I know nothing about this type of thing. What do we need to do to fix it? Is it something we can do or a professional should do?! Thanks! |

It takes a professional mudder to cover something like that. I've seen it done before but it takes someone really good. |

| is what they do here in Oklahoma all the time they have NO idea how to mud sheet rock.. they just spray spackling on the walls... NO smooth walls here in OKLAHOMA |

| If you have never done this before you need to hire someone IMO. If however you want to try doing it yourself be ready to get messy and dusty. First renail any loose drywall make sure that all nails are below the surface. Since the walls are painted sand all the walls. If the walls are painted with enamel paint you will need to prime the walls with a high quality primer. Next you can start applying topping compound. start with a 6 inch knife cover all the joints with an even coat of topping let dry and sand repeat the process using an 8 inch knife. The last coat should be with a 12 inch knife. After the final coat use a bright light held to your side and close to the wall it will show any areas that may need more work. Than prime and paint your walls two coats with a 3/8 nap roller. Good luck |

I've seen ceilings Spackled but never walls. They spackle ceilings because it is harder to hide the irregularities of ceiling joist then it is wall studs. But trying to hide the irregularities of wall studs AND wooden paneling that can bend and warp is next to impossible. I've worked cleanup behind several sheet-rock crews and I've never seen that done. |

Below the surface yes... But DON'T break the paper. If you do it won't hold. I adivse you don't try this if you don't know what you are doing. Iit will be money wasted |

Yeah when I had my house built and told the builder I wanted smooth walls he looked at me like I had 2 heads!! I even told him I'd tape and paint the walls myself to get what I wanted... What a MESS the taper made of the walls.... I think on some of the walls I have 1/2 inch of mud over the whole wall! |

Location: Here | Call your home depot and lowes and see when their next mud and tape drywall class is. You can do this, but it won't be a fast project. Take your time or hire a professional they are quicker |

| I've painted sparkle on the walls and wiped down flat to hide blemishes. You have to like that type of look. I gre up w/smooth walls and so that look is old for me. |

| Dry wall is an "art" and I don't think you're going to be happy learning it and doing it that quick. I'd hire a professional or texture the walls. |

I completely agree. People underestimate drywall mudding and think anyone can do it. There's a reason why only so few people can do it, and do it right.... it's because it's hard and it takes YEARS of practice. Hire a professional and be done with it. |

| I have plasture walls that have knockdown on them.... and i personally love the texture and the old look... but my house is also 100 years old next year!!
I'd get some help.... i just spackled around my tub, textured, and painted and it still doesn't look perfect. if you want perfection you better get some help |

To look natural, Spackle needs to be sprayed on.. Tho I did see a house where they painted it on with a big wide brush and did pivot half swirls that looked really good. |

Location: Finally horseback again.... | Tape and bedding isnt fun. But it is not as difficult to master as you would think. There are classes as someone mentioned earlier.
You can actually trowel the walls and use a paint/ glaze combination to hide lots of blemishes on your sheet rock. This is just using a hand trowel and joint compound to create a texture you like. Mine looks like adobe.
Like others said, it is a time consuming process, messing and not alot of fun. But I did mine.
I WOULD NOT spray spackle on your walls yourself.
There are different types and degrees of texture from thin orange peel look, splatter drag and troweling.

| I just did drywall in my house myself...taught myself as I went. I didn't find it that difficult to learn to do, but time consuming, dirty, sweaty, dirty, more dirty, and it is hard work. If you have the option, hire someone... you won't regret it. |
