| Proverbs 19:1-6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one who is perverse in his lips and is a fool. Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, and he sins who hastens with his feet. The foolishness of a man twists his way and his heart frets against the Lord. Wealth makes many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend. A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape. Many entreat the favor of the nobility, and every man is a friend to one who gives gifts. 8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will find good.
What does it mean to fear the Lord? Unfortunately, far too many people in our world seem to have an attitude about God that is fear based. That is, they are scared to death of Him. They see Him not as a loving Father who has their best interest in mind, but as someone who is just waiting to catch them messing up in some area of life. That is not what it means to fear the Lord.
To fear the Lord means we hold Him in awe, reverence, and respect. We understand that He loves us, and because He does, He has given us His Word filled with wisdom that will enhance our lives and teach us how to live with purpose and meaning.
In this opening verse of Proverbs 19, He tells us that walking in integrity is one of the most important things we can ever do in life. Integrity means perfect, complete, or blameless. It describes a person who is honest and lives life as we should It is set in contrast with one who is "perverse in his lips, dishonest, or a liar.
Fearing the Lord , showing reverence and humility before His Word, leads to wise decisions and wisdom in life. I fear Him not because I am continually scared of Him. I fear Him because I know that He loves me and has given me a pathway in life. Everything He says to me in His word is going to lead to life and freedom.
Today, CHOOSE Life. Walk in integrity with Him.
