I have a Martin All Around that is basically brand new, only had a handful of rides on it and I love it but it does not fit my horse. It is to narrow. I have a chance to trade it for a Brand New Reinsman CJ 11 saddle wide fit. They are asking $1999 for the CJ and I think I paid around $2400 for my all around. My husband seems to think I am a total idiot for wanting to trade a martin for a reinsman but I am in love with the saddle and it will fit my horse..

Do you think this is a fair trade? Am I way off the mark and getting taken here?

I have attached pics of my saddle and the one I am wanting.

If you know for a fact that saddle will fit your horse and you, go for it. There is not that much difference in price. I know nothing about the quality of these saddles, but I always go with what is best for my horse. If the quality is similar, I don't get hung up on matching dollar for dollar in a trade. It is hard to let go of a saddle that you love to ride in though. I have a Wanda Bush saddle that fits me but none of my horses. I can't bring myself to sell it though.

It's not the price I am worried about, I know I won't get all my money back out of my Martin. I am just worried I may be trading down in quality. Like trading a Caddilac for a Kia.

I can see both ways, so really it just comes down to your decision. I bought a Reinsman a couple months ago and really like the saddle and the quality of it. It's not a junk saddle by no means, but it also is not going to hold it's value as well as a Martin. So if your sure the Reinsman will fit your horse and it's something that you would keep longterm, I say go for it. If not, then I think you'd lose money on the Reinsman if it didn't work out and you had to resell it, compared to your Martin.

If one fits and the other doesn't.... go with the one you can use.
If you're worried about trying to get your money out of the martin, then sell it outright before buying the Reinsman....I don't think you're going to get $2400 for it, I'd just take my beating and go on with something that fit my horse.  The reinsmans that I've riden were very nice quality.  Not a junk saddle at all.

Thanks for the opinions guys! I think I am going to go ahead and do the trade. I am in love with the saddle and it has a lot of really nice upgrades on it. I know it will fit my horse and that is my greatest concern.

With martins crown c you can have a bigger gullet put in them or smaller if that is the case. Not sure about an all around saddle but if you like the Martin I would ask about that first. My crown c is top notch on quality I think

Is the Crown C you're showing on that horse your horse or is it another horse? Just from that picture it looks like the saddle is a bit wide on that horse's back not narrow.  Ive found crown c's to run wide. Just checking with a different view point.

It is a high plains all around. It is a 14.5 with a 7 inch gullet.

It isn't a crown c. It's a high plains all around. It is leaving dry spots on her withers and I can't get my hand under it when it is sitting on her back without a pad.
