Location: NE Texas | But i'm still majorly confused because i'm technically challenged. I'm wanting to get a tablet for my mom. She will use it mostly to facebook, BHW, youtube, and basic internet. She may read a book or magazine now and then but will use it more as a PC to surf the internet than anything. I had thought about a Kindle Fire, but in reading the other thread, i'm thinking the Samsung Galaxy tablets might be better suited for her. I have an iPad and do like it, but not for what it cost. The Galaxy tablets to be priced about right. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which direction I need to go? This stuff is WAY confusing! |

Mine is the tab 3, it has 7" display.
There is also the new tab 4, those are a bit more expensive though. I like my tab 3 alot. I buy books off the google play store, and the amazon book application. Books aren't badly priced. |

Not sure how they are any more, but not many people liked the Windows 8 design, so not sure about a tablet by them. |

| I have a nexus and really like it. You can download kindle or moonreader (I use moonreader over kindle). Cheap enough. Only thing I don't like about it is the camera only faces you. :( |

Location: Gainesville, TX | A windows 8 tablet is basically a computer without a keyboard (never seemed like an actual tablet to me though it looks like one). It acts more like a computer. If she needs that type of functionality I think they are not bad. A lot of people find them confusing though. I would think a Kindle Fire wouldn't have enough options. A Galaxy or iPad (maybe iPad mini) might be better. |

Location: Red Raiderland | Hey, Herbie I have a Galaxy (don't know the #) but Troy got it for me a couple of Christmases ago(2012 maybe?) and I did not think I would like it but I LOVE to read all my favorite websites (yes, BHW included) just before I fall asleep. I also use it to video my runs. The camera takes really good videos and pictures. I don't really like to type on it but that's just me, I like a real keyboard. I would steer clear of Windows 8 as it is by far THE WORST OS on the planet and they know it. If you get an aircard she can use it while y'all travel down the road to a barrel race. Hint. Hint. |

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | The Galaxy tablets are user friendly and hold up relatviely well compared to the toher tablets otu there other then the iPad. Also, right now Consumer Reports gives a excellant recommendation for the Galaxy Tablets. You can get apps for Kindle, Google Play and if your library allows it even from your local library. |
