I have thought about buying a pulling breastcollar for a few years now but I feel like it COULD work well but I do not see anyone running with one. I think I just like the idea of having my horses shoulders freed up but still having a breastcollar if anything happens during a ride or run. I know I could use a wither strap with a larger breastcollar but I'm a little iffy about them.
Thoughts?

There is a reason you don't see barrel racers running in a pulling collar.....they aren't designed for it. I have one from when I roped a lot & it was great for that but I don't use it for anything else.

I like the idea of them, especially on certain horses.   I bought one for my mare but I don't think I ever got to run in it before my husband stole it....   Sharon Camarillo is a fan and rides in them and sells them...

it looks like it stays out of the way of their shoulders, giving them less interference when the stretch out but I've never used one. tripping collars are about the only other thing I've used besides a regular breast collar or none.

I just purchased one because my regular breast collar no longer fit my colt with his Double J saddle. They seem to put the D Rings a bit higher on these saddles, so I thought I'd try a pulling breast collar. It's ok...I think I'll be looking for a longer regular breast collar or one that is similar to the pulling collar style...

I loved my pulling style breast collar but love my 5 Star mohair ones more (cool or not, they are all we use anymore :) so the pulling one stays hanging in the tack room.

I use one and like it much better than my thinner Alamo one. I think the pressure is more even and doesn't dig in if the saddle slips back.

I use a thick leather tripping collar when roping and a thinner leather tripping collar for barrels. I also have a horse that I use no breast collar when running barrels. If adjusted correctly they don't move and help keep your saddle in place. If you see one flopping or moving it is not working properly or as designed. Also a pulling collar is different than a tripping collar and is used on many ranch saddles and almost looks like a necklace on a horse when properly adjusted.

I used a blinged out regular breastcollar to race in, with a wither strap and it didn't interfere with the 1300# tank I was running.

I'm not a fan of pulling collars. I just use my regular breastcollar and it does just fine for me. Fits both of my horses perfectly and does not interfere with their movement.

I don't see anything wrong with using a pulling breastcollar to run in. I know of a few in the state that do. I wouldn't use a roper/tripping one though.

They make barrel racer style pulling collars now. I custom ordered one from luans leathers... I believe it's called "Hollywood" style. Love the old Sharon Camarillo one too, keeps pressure off the points of shoulders.
