This isn't my horse and the owner isn't very present. This mare is suddenly guzzling water each and every night for the last week. I was bringing her in and she drank 20 gallons of water in under 10 minutes. This has been going on for a week, the other horses in her pen haven't been drinking water like she has. What do you all think could be wrong with her? I was thinking along the lines of ulcers? any other suggestions?

Diabetes is the first thing that comes to mind here. There are a lot of other causes, but I would want to rule this out first, and it's easy to do.

I was thinking the same thing, and how fresh is the water in the other pen?

I went out to check the tank, quite honestly I didn't know about this situation until yesterday so I haven't been watching her lately. scrubbed the tank, checked the heater to make sure the heater didn't short out. Hoping it may help her. the other horses do let her drink. The owner doesn't want to call the vet, "she's just drinking it can't be that bad."
