Location: Tennessee | Hello, I'm wondering what y'all think is the best state to barrel race. I currently live in Tennessee & while I love it here I'm not sure how far I can progress in my barrel career. I just turned 18 & while I didn't highschool rodeo I'm a diehard barrel racer at heart. I've done pretty extensive research & while I've found there are plenty of NBHA & IBRA races here (which I'm gonna start on those) there's not a lot, if any, WPRA sanctioned races here or surrounding states either. I've seen there's a lot in Texas, Arizona & Florida but I'd like to know if there are any other states with a good number of WPRA races. Arizona draws at me for some reason but I don't know if I could take the heat. My question here is are the races there worth living through the summer? Here's some states I'm not going to consider from personally experience's, Louisiana, Mississippi & Oklahoma. I'm pretty open about any other state (though might take some convincing for Florida). I'm trying to make barrel racing my career so I'm looking ahead. Any info would be well appreciated. Please tell me about your state what makes it special & sets it apart from the rest. Thank you. |

Location: Tennessee | Well to make a long story short, I was born & raised there till I was 17. During my seventeenth year my family went through some very tough times & our family almost disowned us completely, my brother, grandma, uncles... everything. A lot of it due to our Christianity, they said we were overboard & they ridiculed the fact of me & my sister being homeschooled, saying that we would grow up socially awkward & they would talk to us dumbed down or I would be around my old friends (from when I was in school) & they would act like they were around a 10 year old & say I wouldn't understand what their talking about & eventually stopped talking to me all together. So we've moved & it's helped us not being around the people who've hurt us like that. I know rodeos big there & I don't hate the state it self, just to many bad times. |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | Please don’t take this the wrong way……but you sound like you are just getting into barrel racing seriously. As an “old” person to a young one….IMO, you would be better off to stay “at home” where you have the support (monetarily, etc) and get more experience before jumping into a move to the unknown. It wouldn’t’ matter “where” you lived because it costs a LOT of money to live on your own and then not have any left for entries. Also, your reasoning about not living in OK seems to show a little immaturity…OK is a big state but it does have a lot of barrel races, open and pro rodeos, etc. ...... Good Luck! |

Location: Tennessee | Yes you were being critical, that's what some advice is, I didn't slander you or anybody. Apparently you've got self esteem issues or something because other people have said what you did, I'm not singling just you out & I didn't say it to be mean anyways. Cindyt was just saying what I was thinking, I wasn't asking to be anaylized & made looking like I was some entitled & imature teen. I was simply asking the best state to live. & I wasn't rude to you, I even asked your advise afterward. Good luck to you, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Location: AR | I'll say Arkansas is a great state to live in for barrel racing & pro rodeoing. I live in central arkansas & there is somewhere to race every weekend & on the wk nights too. There are a few PRCA rodeos here, as well as, surrounding states.
You might could try working at a ranch or become someone's assistant that's already pro barrel racing & really get some good insight. I know I'd love to have an assistant if I could afford one!

Location: Texas | IMO there's no place better than Erath County Texas... Stephenville (the rodeo capital of the world) is crawling with barrel races, barrel races, and world champions. |
