My daughters horse will run in anything, we used to run him in a sweet six when she was younger but as she has gotten older we switched her into the beetle hack as he is very setty and is automatic, you just have to make sure you ride clear up in the pocket otherwise he'll set a stride out in the indoor pens. My question is which hack would be better for him the beetle or the s hack? I could dang near run him in a o'ring if it wasn't for the fact that everyonce in a while if he cuts that pocket short she has to pick him up to avoid the barrel. On avg he is a 2D horse with tons of set and whoa. Thanks in advance!!!

If you need lift, I really don't know. I run my gelding in a Little S. Keeps me out of his way and keeps his turns more snappy. He was running in an o-ring but he was too bendy in it. Yes I know that sounds odd but he was. I work him at home in a short shank lifter bit. I would never be able to work him in a hack. He's lazy and likes to drop on a circle if you let him so the lifter keeps him honest.

I can get him to move off a barrel just fine with the Little S. I use a lot of leg too if we get into a bind. It's worked alright for me in that aspect. I'm not sure about one that would need a bit of lift. Mine is pretty sensitive in the face to just about anything, so it works for us.

He sounds a lot like yours, the reason we pulled him out of the sweet six was because he wouldn't fire as hard. He picked up better times without it, switched to the beetle and he really started clocking better. I am half tempted to have her try and make a run the s hack to see how he does in it.

Try it! I just use my leg and pick up a little harder than I would with a lifter or bit when I need to get him over. Seems to work alright for us.

I really like the Little S to run in. It works great for my guy. I think it's good for really broke horses that don't need a lot of help on the pattern. I stay out of his way more than anything. I'm just there to pick him up going in and guide him around and kick. Lol.

I used the Lil 'S' for years loved it - I no problems using it to lift the inside shoulder when I needed to.  I used it on several different horse during the years some with diving problems and some with no problems.  Never had a horse I had to drive up into the pocket 'thank goodness' just aim- kick and either help around the barrels or stay out of the way and drive between each one.  I found as long as they had good whoa I saved the mouth and if I need a bit more I could use a jr cowhorse broken 3 pc for any corrections.  Those were my 2 main pieces.

We ride him at home in a 3 piece bit when we exercise him and warm him up at races then switch over, he is a butt dragger with lots of set and she does very well with him and uses her feet I usually try to keep his curb as loose as I can because he responds to a curb so well. To bad she can't run him in a halter LOL!!!

A Little S is literally one step up from a halter. I asked a bit maker if there was anything a step down from a Little S. He told me the only thing lighter would be a halter. Lol

It works great for me. Gives me plenty of lift and control when I need it. It's my new favorite.

I would just keep using the two separate bits thing. One to work and warm up in and one just to run in. That's how I used mine and ive never had a problem with him being too stiff or numb to the hack.
