| We had really bad flies this year and now I'm planning ahead! I am looking into buying some fly sheets. I have one and it doesn't have a brand on it and it's ancient. What are the best brands out there? My horses will beat them up so I want durable ones that last. Also, what are the best ways to get rid of flies? We used fly eliminator bugs that we had sent in the mail monthly but it didn't seem to help one bit. What is the best fly spray out there? We use the kind that dairy's use. I cant remember the name Poly somthing. But it smells like you are spraying diesel on your horse and I don't like it, but it does work. Im looking for a better solution. Obviously I have some time to plan ahead, no flies around when its -20 out but I want to be ready when they come back! |

| Kensingtion has the best fly sheets hands down! They are extremely durable and have UV protection as well. They tend to be pricey but they last, I have a couple that are 5+ years old and other than being a bit dirty they look brand new. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | In the spring Valley Vet has a sale on Pyrana fly spray by the case. I buy a couple cases that last all season long and its much cheaper that way. I'm not a fan of fly sheets, it just gets too hot IMO. Mine do have fly masks and boots to save on horse shoes. |

| I use Pyranha fly spray.
As for fly sheets, I've only ever had one - it was a Weatherbeeta. I wasn't crazy about it because I think it was too heavy. My horse sweated constantly with it on. It was durable though, lasted about 3 summers until I put it on another horse that ripped it to shreds in one day. |

Pyrahna literally kills flies on contact. It's kind of fun to watch, in a twisted sort of way lol. I think it's the best bang for the buck. I can get it for about 12.99 per bottle, compared to some of the higher priced sprays at 18.99+. (If you don't want to spend the $$ and buy a gallon). I spray my horses daily, but it seems to last a decent amount of time. |

Location: South Dakota | SS Tack has some lightweight fly sheets that aren't as hot and do seem pretty durable if you want a fly sheet. Pyrana or however you spell if works really well. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes to watch them drop. And if I can get one of those black horseflies I really get excited. |

Location: Texas | I have two Rambo Protector Fly Sheets with the neck attachments. Bought them used on ebay. They have held up well. I am having the surcingal straps replaced because they kept tearing, I believe cuz they are a couple of years old, sun break down, wear, etc. But the actual sheets have held up well. I live in Central TX and my horses wore them pretty much all day, every day. They did sweat a little under them at the shoulders, but not too bad. I would usually leave them off at night, but my one horse would get eaten alive over night. I think this summer he is going to wear it 24/7!
I have yet to find a fly spray that works that you don't have to practically bath the horse in. I figure if I don't want that toxic stuff sprayed all over me, I probably shouldn't spray it all over the horse either!
Has anyone tried feeding garlic or apple cider vinegar and had any results with either of these? |

Is it that the flies are not attracted to the horse poop with the DE in it? Or do the horses emit an oder that repels the flies (like garlic)?

Location: My own little world :) | I don't know if you all are into it but I have made up fly spray with my Young Living Essential Oils and it seems to work pretty well. I'm not saying its as good as pyranha but I know I sometimes wonder what all is in fly spray and if it kills flies immediately on contact is it good to be spraying my horses with it daily?
I mixed the thieves, purification, and a few others in an old spray bottle with water and it seemed to really work.
Also, I really like the fly predators. You choose the size shipment you need and they ship it to you every month through the summer. You jus sprinkle them in the problem areas and bam! The flies are gone :) |

| I never thought of that! I use Young Living essential oils so I will have to mix some up! As for the fly eliminators I think using them in Iowa is a lost cause, there are just too many flies.

| Pyranha works best for us at a reasonable cost. ADM also makes a good fly spray and you can buy it in in 2 1/2 gallon containers |
