I have a super sweet and obedient six month old heeler/aussie. He is super smart and full of energy so he requires a "job" or something to keep him entertained. He knows all the basics, heal, sit, stay, down, come. I even taught him some harder things to keep him from getting bored, he brings me any toy on command, squeaks a squeaky toy on command, shakes my hand, barks on command. I was wondering if any of you have taught your dogs any fun and unique tricks. Also, when I'm not with him, he stays outside and finds things to keep himself busy, he likes to attack flowers, dig, play with our cats (He's actually nice to them, and they will attack him if he plays to hard lol), he loves to play with our older dog, he drags out any shoe, halter, tack, stick, bucket, ANYTHING he can find and carries it around the yard. All in all he is well behaved, he just gets bored, which is typical of a puppy. I have been searching the internet for things/games to keep him occupied, any suggestions?

We have a chuck-it - which is a tennis ball thrower. Our dogs will chase the stupid ball till they fall over. And its easy for us to whip the ball as far as possible. Our dogs also know roll over, they also like to chase the water out of the hose

What a smart pup!
Here's a  "self entertaining" idea:

Or maybe get him going on agility?

I have a book called 101 dog tricks. Has easy tricks all the way up to complex tricks. My doberman gets bored easily. So every now and then I go through that book until I find something I want to teach her. If he is smart and wants a job, and you are bored maybe you could start working towards his cgc and stuff. Or maybe agility. My doberman will do the basics, shake with each paw, wave bye bye, close a door, open a door (if it has a rope tied to the handle, I didn't really want her thinking she could just open any door lol), play dead, fetch my shoes, heel, do all kinds of circles... she would sit up pretty before she got fat. I also taught her to find a baggy with an article of clothing in it. I was just winging it so I'm sure she wasn't taught the proper way, but my redneck dope dog will sniff everything looking for that baggy... and she has gotten pretty good at it. Her only downfall is that she wasn't socialized and she was attacked by the neighbor's dogs (in our yard), so she is extremely dog aggressive with medium and large dogs and she is fearful of strangers. She we can't go do much without her just having a melt down. If I had the time and she didn't freak so much I would be working with her on obedience titles, maybe play with agility some. She loves that type of stuff and she has the brains for it... her social game is a little fragile though lol.

I take my Aussie out to run a few miles every morning and that helps. When we are inside during the day as it's 110+ we play a lot of hide and seek games with treats or toys, sometimes people.
