Expert Posts: 1410 Location: Peach State	I have the wide tree in both JJ and TF (which says fits foundation type or most mutton wither horses) those saddles fit all of my mature geldings. However I don't know how to tell if it's sitting how it's meant to on my 6yr old colt. He's mutton withered but has a very narrow/ rounded back. When I put the pomel where you typical would so that the rigging hangs in place it's makes good contact (firm but not a lot of pressure) but it doesn't seem to sit down on his back past that point of his withers like the saddle is too wide from there on. Should I shim since it fits his withers or since it's treeless will it mold to him past the pomel point? Edited by RunninOnARooster 2015-01-12 12:56 PM

JMHO Posts: 1869 Location: Oklahoma	I have a big gelding that is built much like your horse. I also have a Double J. I have to have a shim added to fill a little gap behind the wither/shoulder blade. My gelding is not sway backed, he just has very tall narrow withers and then hollows out a bit. The shims have made a big difference.

Miss Laundry Misshap Posts: 5271	I wouldn't say that horse is mutton withered. He's got some withers. He'd probably do better in the regular tree. They have more V in their shape for withers. The flatter tree isn't going to become V shaped with shimming.

Does it fit like a bob marshal?, sometimes I ride in my mothers circle y BM roughout basic barrel racer that seems to sit on his back better. I really like the circle y TF and JJ saddles for the rider I just don't like how hard the area under the pomel is.

I have had back problems in the past and sat in the TF the way it was built (compared to regular saddles) it sat me different that I didn't feel any pain in my back....that being said I don't care to feel confined in my saddle so I think I would like the JJ better if I was to buy one. But the whole reason to go to either of them would be for my back pain.

Expert Posts: 1410 Location: Peach State	They do sit a little different to me it feels like the tammy sit you for flat where the JJ seat seems tilted back. However I really do like the TF for my gelding that is VERY strong, and drops his head and whole front end around the barrels. Hes very quick and catty so that higher pommel and cantle helps me ride him two handed longer.
