My 10 year old mare is starting to get arthritis in her stifles. She will be getting injected but I would also like to get her on a supplement. I had her on one, can't remember the name of it, but it didn't seem to help much. So my question is what supplements work well for horses with arthritis?

Adequan, I used it on my gelding with arthritis and I really saw a difference, you will get more out doing something IM or IV rather than a feed through however, I do have my horses on MSM and like that.

My older gelding (19 this year) is on adequan as well as cetyl m. Just started that combo this year and have to say he ran his fastest time in the 10 years i have had him on it.

Platinum CJ

I had a 15 year old with kissing spines and a couple of bone chips in his knee on it and he always felt good. I didn't realized how great he felt until I took him off it. Amazing. I told the vet how big the difference was and he said he knew. I guess I am going to have to put him back on it because even though it appears to be expensive, the daily cost is really cheaper than anything else I have found.

I used the Animal Element Product X on my old mare with an arthritic knee and she did great on it. It has Cissus Quadrangularis Extract which has mild analgesic properties. So she felt good. Animal Element even carries staight Cissus available if you don't want to use the Product X.

Look into Pentosan.  My horses seem to like it AND it should help extend the time between injections.

Pentosan. I swear by it becouse of the results i seen with my gelding. 20 year old with arthritic ankles...runnin by his first and not finnishing barrels..stocked up TERRIBLE overnite in his stall. I long trotted him to keep him fit..injected his ankles...gave pentosan every 2 weeks , and also had him on actiflex 4000 for maintenance and he cleaned up his pattern so nice!! I also alternated with back on track quick wraps every othet nite while stalled..his stocking up went away...completely..and a much more limber moving horse.

I agree with the Pentosan. My 14 year old guy has had a lot of joint problems in the last several years. I put him on Pentosan and he was a totally different horse! Love this stuff. I also use magnets before and after a run and poultice. Good luck!

We have a 25 yr old retired cutter then broodmare who fell on the ice last year in her paddock. She panicked and ran backwards then folded like an accordian into the panals. She was a MESS. Both her hocks are totally blown now. Last spring we really thought we were going to have to put her down because when she layed down, she had a very very hard time getting back up. Vet gave her a couple adaguan and legend shots at first, we put her on Platimum CJ and she does get a daily dose of previcox. She is doing great on just the platinum cj and previcox now.

I get mine from horse pre race. It's way cheaper than my vet sells it to me from Wedgwood and works just as well on my horses.

180 for the 30 ml is crazy. That's only 5 doses. I get 100 ml for 129.00. And that's the gold with glucosamine in it.

Just requested my perscription from Wedgewood will let you know how much when I find out.

Also, just looked at horse prerace and their prices have really come down in the last couple months!  Wish they had the 100 ml bottles.

I was wrong. After you wrote that I was like, crap! that dude is robbing me blind! lol. I went and looked at my bottle and its 50mL. Still higher than where you're paying though...

Yea. My vet charges 200 bucks for the 30ml bottle from wedgewood. It took me a lot of research from other users before I felt ok with giving the horse pre race stuff. Just their website is kind of weird. Lol. But talked to a lot of users and it seems to be just fine. I really like their prices. And shopping is crazy fast! Literally got tracking info on my order within 20 minutes of placing order. I bought 1 vial of platinum to. Have not used that yet.

THE JointPLUS! My trainer noticed a difference after being on it for 3 days. I do inject his hocks once a year and he is 13 years old.

My perscription from Wedgewood was just approved for 100m at $160 shipped to my door.  BUT, I do know I have an incredible vet that never upcharges!
