I can vouch for that...I've been to Kansas and I have relatives there, but I don't think I'd ever want to live there...that place is mostly flatter than a pancake!

Location: TEXAS | I have one...and I won't sell her haha!!! I bet that's the case a lot. Looking is pretty scary. Last year I sold a dangerous problem horse for 1,000 due to the issues and the gal tried to sell her for 10,000 the next day!!!! Luckily I was able to save a couple people from a bad mistake but crooked liars seem to be everywhere. |

Location: North of where I want to be | I'm with the OP on this one. I have been looking for a while, not agressively until about a month ago. I think some of these ads actually make you dumber about horses!! Everything is either a 1-2d diamond in the rough, that just hasn't met it full potential, or its a unstarted 3-4 year old that they are asking 15k for because 18 generations back is a great grandson of Dash for Cash......locally there is a unregistered QH that is clocking the 3d at the 4H shows, they are asking 15K, because "this is a pro horse all the way"......That has to be backed into the areana because it has flipped over on the girl numerouse times.......yeah I want that one(insert eye roll here) |

Location: Piedmont, OK | When you said elusive unicorn at first I thought you must be talking about a perfect man - those dont exist. Lol. I searched for a long time trying to find the perfect barrel horse and all I can say is there are a lot of lying horse traders out there. And I am Not joking either. I ended up coming across a cute lil reining mare. I bought her to be a brood mare. I wanted a cow bred mare to cross on race bred studs. She was broke to death. I got 1 baby out of her then I put her on barrels and she is amazing. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | My hubby was talking to a lady the other day who's daughter is wanting a barrel horse. They've looked at horses all over AZ and surrounding states. Supposedly everyone lied about their horses. Hubby said I may be interested in selling my mare. But I'm not. Lol. But they didn't blink and eye at his $8,000 price tag. I'll be honest and say I bought her for $900 two years ago. She was 7. Started on barrels as a 4 year old and sat since then. I haven't hauled her NEARLY enough. Its difficult because hubby works 6 days a week and we have a 5 year old that hates road trips. No local races ever. But with minimal and sporadic hauling, my gal can clock mid to high 17's, granted, inconsistently. But she has the speed.I am shocked to read that barrel horses are going for that much. So, say my mare is 9 years old. She's reg Appendix with Driftwood/native dancer stuff in there. Sound. Healthy. Awesome on trails. And was a consistent 2d barrel horse, what could she bring? |

Location: North of where I want to be | And for your mare I'd happily pay 8k too. Especially with those lines.
What we have up here is ALOT of bad legs. My particular favorite is the severely cow hocked, sickle hocked WP rejects flooding the barrel horse market & demanding $$$$ because after all Impressive was bred for speed. And while I am one of the few who LOVE the Impressive bred mares, unless you are a WP person, they are hard to move.
If its in the 1-4 age range most that have seen lately have leg conformation issues, and yet because they have some soandso who was something on the papers They bring top dollar.
And the, I left it stand in a field for the last 2 years because the second time I rode the horse It reared & now I want 5K because it has potential because it does indeed have a nice pedigree crowd is pretty rampant too.
I would gladly pay more for something, sane, sound, and slower than ANYTHING fast lame & crazy because the people ruined it

Hungarian Midget Woman
Location: Midwest | I have one... he's 18 and solid 3D at bigger shows up here... but he's not going anywhere. It really is hard to find one that isn't nuts, lame, and is reliable. I am lucky. For a weekend runner who was just getting back into things, he's been totally perfect. I've had him 12 years and he will be with me until the end! He's not a plodder and doesn't know his age. lol Honestly, I think the folks that have those solid horses hold onto them. You'd be money ahead patterning an older, well broke horse. Either that or find one through folks you know that isn't being advertised yet. |

No...but maybe we are just saving him for ourselves. Sometimes I'd like to go from two horses (one a 3D/4D horse, the other a prospect) to one solid 2D/3D (maybe with a few 1D runs thrown in), but I am a collector...I can't get rid of one easily. |
