I own these horses. I want to know which horse you think I should keep. I am having major difficulties.

1. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/elegant+show
This mare is 16hh. TB looking. Not as eye appealing. I like her pedigree personally because almost every horse on her papers have either produced or won moderate amounts $$. Mare has a nice personality but isn't always the brightest crayon if you know what I mean.

2. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/rainbowette
This mare is 14.2hh. Race QH looking. More eye appealing. I like her pedigree because it has more common names and will re-sell better because of that. I feel like her pedigree is not quite as well put together consistency wise. I like this mare's intelligence more but I do not like how sensitive she is. She is almost over the top.

I need to reduce my herd. I am not overwhelmed yet but well on my way to burnt out. I just got a gelding that I would love to be able to devote enough time into to be able to enjoy him. My gut says keep #2 but due to the lack of eye appeal #1 has she will be hard to sell and I don't want to "give" her away. I want someone to appreciate what she is and take care of her. I'm not saying either of these horses are TOP notch animals but I don't feel they are junk.

Thanks for reading.

Edited to fix my terrible grammar.

You could put them both up for sale and keep the one that does not sell. Who are they in foal to?

I love my two broodmares though, they are carrying around my dreams and giving me so much. I myself would probly sell the gelding. Well acatualy I would notd have got the gelding if it was going to become too much. I dont mean anything by that, thats just what i would do. I dont get horses unless i can handle them all. And my broodmares are easy other than foaling and getting them in foal so like 2 months of hard work a year the rest of the time they just need good food and love and that's just day to day life here.

Im not sure what to tell you. Good luck i hope everything works out the way you want.

thank you :)

I thought I wanted to do more of the baby scene and all that stuff but when I rode this gelding I got a taste of what it would be like to be able to compete again. My mare has been down for so long I have just been doing the work and not really getting anything out of it. Not to say watching happy, healthy horses doesn't make my day but I really do want to do more than clean stalls LOL.

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine. Where I think I messed up this year is getting the girls under lights way to early. I'm not breeding until at least March and I have been bringing them up and putting them under lights for over a month already. I'm just not used to having this many horses in the barn. Its so easy when they are turned out! Lol. My friend mentioned that yes, I started way to early and is throwing my toys in the dirt now going to be worth it when the mares foal? I have been looking forward to these foals for a long time now and is it really worth getting a 2 month break from 1 extra horse to lose the opportunity to have that foal.

mare #1 is being bred to a DTF son (FG grandson) and #2 will be bred to Pacman. I have wanted a Pacman baby for 2 solid years.

Yes lights is lots of work.

I dont do lights or any tinkering with cycles and we are due march 28 and april 17. Im in Albert though i dont really want a February baby! Although this jan has been pretty Inc on the whole.

Both thoes studs sound nice. Im no help im a horse horder lol. Its a tuff choice for sure, also keep in mind open mares sometimes dont sell, and have you booked in and sent money or need to? They may not want that breeding (new owner) so there coil be issues there.

You can PM if you want but what do you find so overwhelming? Two months can go really fast and deviant is short lol. I love watching my broodmares grow! And in a few short years ill be sitting on a great prospect that took its first step on MY land that got its first pet from me! That excites me and gives me goosebumps just thinking about how wide open our doors our.

Is the first one a quarter horse or appendix?

I would keep number 2 due to pedigree, appendix mares are harder to sell, (if that is the case), also I do not like 16 hand horses.

It also depends on what you are breeding for, racing then I would keep number 1.

You said number 1 has more money earners, but where did the horses earn the money, if the thoroughbreds made the money in longer distances, then the horse has no appeal to me whatsoever.

And you are right you will have a harder time selling the first, unless she has a wicked speed index, then you may be able to market her in the racing industry.
