| I know this has been covered and discussed a lot. But know I have a horse with ulcers. I guess I should have paid more attention. So I went on horseprerace and look at their products, which do I buy to cure ulcers omperazole/ ranitidine combo or just the big tube of omp that has 13.8 grams bet tube? And what's the dosage to treat ulcers ? |

your horse needs 2.28 grams of omeprazole daily to treat and cure ulcers. The big tube is just a multi dose tube and seems like a hassle. I would just buy the smaller 6.00 tubes. |

| According to Ulcerguard website treatment is 28 days and they mention relapse if you don't fix what caused them in the first place. |

| I agree with the others above - at least 30 days on Omeprazole. And after using the omeprazole, you have to be wary of the reactionary effect. When your horse is on omeprazole it stops acid (which in turn allows ulcers to heal) however it also adjusts the pH level, the horse's hormonal system receives a message that the pH is out of balance and tries to create more acid to compensate. The day the omeprazole administration stops, the stomach releases an increased amount of acid, causing an 'acid-rebound' effect.
And then you also will need to make adjustments to ensure he won't relapse. Reduce stress, plenty of turn out, avoid starchy grains, free choice hay (most important!), slow feed hay net also help, and perhaps consider using a daily supplement to maintain stomach health and use as a preventative. My horses are on Gastro-Plex by MVP and I cannot say enough good things about it. If you want more info feel free to message me. :) |

| I agree to. Im just finishing up a month on my colt of omeprazole. Instead of just stopping I am tapering off down to a very low dose before he actually stops. And added a feed through to start buffering before the acid flood. |

| GREAT ADVICE I'm new to the Ulcer deal never treated for them, probably had a few horses in the past that had them just never realized it |

| Used the stuff from preracehorse for the 30 day stuff work great, wish it was a powder so i could use less. Cause imthin a half a dose would workon my horse. |
