On you tube look up pro poly podiatry. It is a rubber that adheres to the hoof once wet and applied.neat stuff and designed to protect the sole. Might be something worth using.
Thanks I will look it up now!

A three year old with shoes and pads on already??? OUCH...
Pull the shoes and leave him barefoot...let that colts feet get stronger......as the blood circulates through his feet he will build a stronger soul and stronger hoof walls........

Track horses take a beating at a young age on their feet. Many are shod so off balanced
( kept long in the toe causing the heel to become underrun and soles to stretch and thin
) and so regularly, sometimes barefoot isnt an option, only can make the problem worse, especially this time of year.

cow pie - 2015-01-27 10:40 AM The horse is long in the toe. Get a farrier who will bring the toe back to balance and your horse will quit pulling the shoes off. If i were you and if possible leave the horse barefoot.
This is what I was always told with a horse who was constantly over reaching and pulling shoes. Too long in the fronts, not getting enough break over. Many would think, Oh I'll square up the back feet so he stops reaching up, but really you need to be looking at the fronts.

Thanks all! Farrier came out yesterday and I think we got it handled. He only needs pads for a couple shoeings then he will be fine. He goes fine when weather is warm. Just lots of rain.
