| I'm heading to 2 clinics in April - Molly Otto in Valley City, ND and Jane Melby in Nevis, MN.
I was supposed to ride at the clinic in Nevis with Jane last spring, but got bucked off a horse and tore my knee up two days before it! I still went and audited, and am really excited to ride with her. Sitting and watching everyone from the beginning to the end, it was awesome to see how much their skills as jockeys improved!
I'm SUPER excited for the clinic with Molly. She's an outstanding trainer and jockey. I'm hoping I can learn to feel a horse the way she does!

Location: Willows, CA | Ray Hunt was a great friend and mentor for many years. I started colts with him, some of them his, and think of him every day. Now that Ray is gone, I really feel that Buster McLaury reminds me more of Ray and his ability to communicate what he is doing than anyone else. I can almost close my eyes and hear Ray when Buster talks. If you don't really have the fundamentals of horsemanship you will really be limited on how far you can go with any performance discipline. On this note, the Legacy of Legends event in Ft Worth is happening March 6, 7, and 8th. This is a great chance for people to see and visit with those who worked directly with Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. I will be doing the Nutrition part of the event on Saturday morning at 9am in the W. R. Watt Arena.

I don't want this to come off wrong, because I don't mean it this way.... BUT... My honest opinion without ever being around her or going to any of her clinics, I think you could get more for your money going to someone else's clinic rather than hers. That is not meant to be a knock on her at all, but that is with the limited knowledge I have about her that she has not been around horses and barrel racing as long as some. Not saying that you won't learn something, but I would rather spend money with someone who has a long history not only with barrel racing but also starting and fixing horses as well.
Once again, this is not trying to be negative, it is just my personal feelings.
But also, if the clinic were cheap enough you will ALWAYS learn something from anyone if you are willing to open up your mind and ears. I just wouldn't pay as much for some then people with years of experience.

Location: Where I am happiest | With any clinician I think it's very importat to ask yourself, "Have they been successful on MULTIPLE horses? Did they train those horses? Or jump on already trained horses or horse? I see people giving clinics who have bought a horse already trained, do good on THAT horse, then start giving clinics. Go to those who have a long list of horses they have TRAINED, and won on.

firewaterfuelsme - 2015-01-23 7:31 PM Buck Branaman for horsemanship. As for barrels I think it depends on your riding level and style. Some teach basics while others teach advanced and you will get more oyt of someone who has a similar riding style. As for clinton anderson google his name. There are way to many horror stories out there for me to follow him and he is arrogant and condesending....
Clinton horror stories? Really? I've been to 4 clinics, and devoured his dvd's, including the barrel racing one with Sherry Cervi. I think of Clinton as super-confident, not arrogant....and if he is arrogant, he deserves to be, if just a bit. He's the absolute best teacher on the planet, and he is funny as all get out, but you have to put your pride aside when Clinton deals with you and your horse. I'm sorry you are missing out on the greatest clinician in the world just because you "heard horror stories"...watch for yourself. He's funny, an awesome communicator, and in the end, he gets the job done . 2 thumbs up for Clinton! last thing...googling anybody's name is a surefire way to learn a bunch of crap from the disgruntled few...not good research skills, my friend.
There were some riders that went to audit an Anderson clinic here and they said he smelled strongly of alcohol and slurred his words the whole time along with offensive racial comments.
