Give him 60 ccs of Maalox two times a day. It will put the fire out so he can eat. Meantime, get Gastrogard on order asap.
During this time, get him eating alfalfa, SmartGI Ultra, and probiotic paste for ten days. Forco is helpful too.
This is my go to, and you can turn now around and eating again in just a few days.
Not to steal the thread but you sparked a question I've been wondering. Do you give Forco with the GI Ultra? I know the GI Ultra already has probiotics in it. Is it safe to feed both together or is it too much? I've got my horse on the GI Ultra and debated adding Forco also. I'm also feeding Blue Bonnet feed that has probiotics in it too. |

Forco is a PREbiotic, meaning that it helps feed the good digestive bugs that make up PRObiotics.
And yes, Forco has been a wonderful product and I can see a major difference with my stomach problems horses (2 out of the four I own struggle with stomach issues).
The BEST thing you can do is cut the molasses out and get grain consumption to less than five pounds a day.
Rice bran or Renew Gold have been the best things for my guys. They are simply thriving on Renew Gold, coastal hay, and 6 lbs of alfalfa pellets.
I have a three year old colt that got very sick with ulcers last year. He gave no sign of them until about 10 days before he was nearly dead. I completely redid his feed after I got him out of the hospital. He's still on his slightly modified program from his buddies.
He is a racebred 16.2 hand, long and lanky, hard keeping kid. He gets:
Free choice Bermuda/alfalfa mix cubes, (he's currently snarfing about 30 lbs of them a day, Yay!!!) 1 lb Renew Gold, and 2 lbs of Ultium, with the feed split into two feedings. He's getting 1.5 lbs of feed 2X daily total. With that, he gets Forco, SmartGI Ultra, and immune system supplements. He's looking really good. He does get a lot of turn out, and there's a round bale for him.
Anytime anything at my house loses some appetite, they go straight onto a probiotic paste for 7-10 days. Depending on some variables, they probably get a tube of UlcerGard daily for 10 days as well. I quit playing with ulcers after my kiddo got sick.
I have noticed that I haven't had as many problems after adding the Forco and SmartGI Ultra. Good stuff.

| Just ordered 2.3 gram tubes from preracehorse to try and cure our mare. Ordered on phone lady told me it was a 4 dose tube. After buying 7 tubes which is what it would take for 28 days. I looked at their site it says 1 dose or 1/2 dose daily WTH. Anyone know what's the deal with it ? |

Location: midwest mama | I gave my barrel horse compounded omeprazole that I got from a vet and he had a horrible reaction to it. I have to draw out of my barrel racing finals because it was so bad.
I will not feed a compounded omeprazole ever again.
My advice is to be very careful with formulations that are not proven. JMO........... |

they sent me individual tubes and I give one of them daily, I'm not at the barn so not sure how much one tube is, if you go to the website look at how many cc's the little tube is and give that once a day |

I was wondering the same thing.. They all say (generic and not) 4 dose tube but then it says to give half or a full tube daily.. So which is it? That makes a big difference in what its going to cost to treat for 30 days. |

| I emailed them, cannot call them, only a sales rep that only knows how to take your order .Emailed me back and said its a 4 dose tube but you need to give at least 1/2 a day but preferably 1 tube a day to get 2.3 grams of omperazole. So you would need 28 tubes at 6.95 ea to treat a horse. I can get it cheaper at my vet. Should have done my homework more before ordering from them. |

That article I just posted said the 1/4 1/2 tube is for maintaining but the full tube is for treatment.. |

| What are some different signs of ulcers? one of my mares gets horrible "runs" with any slight change or addition to her ofeed. Could this be ulcers? I haven't had her to the vet to check her. |
