I am curious about these as well. I saw the commercial for Equi-Resp. I have a gelding w/some allergies who seems to be more sensitive to dust as well.

I've been using the Silver Horse Care nebulizer since Nov.
It's helped mine. I use it to so I know it works.
It's most reasonably priced one I've seen. They were great working with my vet to come up with a treatment plan.
My horse is a bleeder.

I have one and I like it. I have the Equiresp silver which came with it but we also use fluticasone for one horse who has an RX for it and I know you can also use albuterol.. I'm sure there are other things you can nebulize with.

I love seeing all the interest in nebulizing. Nebulizing is a way of life for a large majority of the human population, but the equine world is just now starting to realize how important it is for your horse. Dust, pollutants, allergies and viruses reek havoc on your horses respiratory system. Think how you feel when you leave a dusty, closed in arena! Your horse feels the same.
Equi-Resp uses a patent pending mask design that was developed with some of the top vets in the world. It fits a horse properly and ensures that whatever you use to nebulize, nebulizes at the proper rate. The clear soft plastic is not intimidating to the horse and the quick release ensures safety at all time.
EquiSilver was developed by a vet for vets over 10 years ago. If you go to their website you can see articles and documentation of it's efficacy. No matter what people may tell you, colloidal silver will not nebulize properly. The particle size is too big and the parts per million is not enough. In all my research I have not found one article on nebulizing horses with it. It was made for humans to drink. Think about it. Look at the size of your respiratory system and that of your horses. How in the world is something 15-40 parts per million going to do any good? It is great for cleaning the sinus cavity, but it will not nebulize into the respiratory system.
EquiSilver has proven over and over and over to nebulize properly and at 100-110 parts per million of its patent process it was designed specifically for equine nebulization. It is not recommended for humans, it won't cure acne or kill chiggers. It was made ONLY for equine nebulization. This is why the top three nebulizers on the market all endorse it and have protocols specifically for it. It is used day of race at Churchill Downs and both the US Olympic teams that went to China and London used it.
If you go to the EquiResp website you can watch a video that will answer many questions for you. Or go to the Facebook page and see testimonial after testimonial of how it is helping horse.
The Down The Road model is the most economically priced unit on the market that has a real mask that actually works. The Pro model is for horses with real issues.
Do your research, look at everything on the market and the quality of the products. Remember you get what you pay for.

On the video it states the neb helps "clean out the [respiratory] system." How does it do this?

Just like for asthmatics, cystic fibrosis patients or pneumonia/ bronchitis in people, what it does is opens the airways, tames irritation, helps rid bacteria (silver solution), and loosens/ thins mucous so they can work it up (cough or snort).

Long before there was antibiotics, silver was commenly use to stop infection. Silver has natural antibacterial properties and unlike antibiotics, bacteria can not become resistant to it. A lot of times when a horse bleeds there is either a potential for or there already is on going bacteria related issues which can manifest into resp. infections and so on. So the silver helps this problem by getting deep down in the lungs via the nebulizer.

For horses that are on a metered inhalant, will the regular equi resp model work for that?  Do you have to have a different attachment or the flexineb?

How does silver open the airways? It say it also helps expel mucous. Is it a mucolytic also? Lol I'm so confused

Sorry you are confused. There is a lot of contradictory information out there. I've been researching for 3 years, and I still get confused at times! The easiest way to understand nebulizing is to think about when you are congested and take a hot shower, how your airways open up. Nebulizing takes it a step farther. By forcing the mist into the respiratory system you allow the airways to be soothed and also allow what you are nebulizing to help expel what is in the respiratory system. The product EquiSilver has a ten year history of working specifically in a horses respiratory system. Please don't be confused about claims by other silvers products. You won't find any document or articles written about nebulizing horses with colloidal silver. You may find blogs, but that is about it. The particle size is to large and the parts per million are to small. Only theEquiSilver product has ten years of documented proof. The patented formula is the highest parts per million on the market and designed exclusively for a horses system. Check out the EquiSilver website for the documentaion. Also check out the EquiResp Facebook page for testimony after testimony of these two great products.
